I know it's Madonna's daughter but I'm thinking popularity won't grow to much since she goes by a different name. I used to hate it but it has kind of grown on me...wdyt?
It's a place name and celebrity name (trendy). but I think it's great if your Catholic and looking for a religious name. Bernadette would be a more classic choice if you are thinking about the name Lourdes.
however, i think only a certain look can pull this name off, e.g., dark hair and olive/tan complexion. also, i think it's best suited with a hispanic last name.
I like it for Catholic reasons. But then again I like Mercedes for Catholic reasons too, haha. Madonna wasn't the first to use the name either... I knew a Lourdes before her daughter was born.

"And can it be that in a world so full and busy, the loss of one weak creature makes a void in any heart, so wide and deep that nothing but the width and depth of vast eternity can fill it up." - Charles Dickens
It's my mom's name! Haha.. so it's not unusual to me. She's Lourdes Patricia (with a spanish accent). Her nn growing up and to my step-son now is Lulu.
Too religious sounding for me, NMS... Love Catherine though.
TTK 9/06 / TTC 10/08 / Twins 12/11 / Life Blog 5 REs + 3 surgical hysteroscopies for septum/lap + 3 failed IUIs IVF w/ICSI/AH & acu = BFP!, unexplained spontaneous m/c @ 8w2d (our little girl), FET w/acu = BFP!, B/G twins!, lost MP @19w, dx w/funneling cervix @20w, twins nearly lost to IC @21w, saved by rescue cerclage, 17P & 16w of bedrest Our twins born @36w4d via CS when A came foot first
I have heard Lord-ess (as in Madonna's daughter) and Lords (as in several churches called Our Lady of Lourdes)
I pronounce it Loor-deys
This. I assume the pronunciation differs based on culture/region. The times I've heard it said "Lords" is usually in the US, but I think the Spanish pronunciation is as above.
I automatically think of my church Our Lady of Lourdes and the many other churches with the same name. I'm Catholic, but I can't imagine using Lourdes as a child's name. It just doesn't sound pretty to me and like a PP mentioned, many people pronounce it "Lords".
I like a PP's suggestion of Bernadette much better.
Re: How do you feel about Lourdes?
Not horrible, but definitely NMS.
I particularly dislike the way this name sounds. I don't think it's pretty at all.
i like it!

PAL/PGAL Welcome
I feel the same way too. I don't like it.
Can someone clarify the pronunciation for me?

Dislike.
