Packing for the baby?

I am confused... what do you need to pack for the baby besides an outfit or 2?  Won't the hospital have everything I need for the baby when I have her?

  • Yep, they sure will! I didn't even pack an outfit for my DS.  He lived in a side-snap shirt and a swaddle blanket that was provided by the hospital.  I had a c/s and had a 4 day hospital stay and didn't need a single thing for him the entire time.

This exactly. I packed a full diaper bag last time and only used one outfit and a blanket for going home. The bag just took up space in my hospital room!

This! Last time I packed him a huge bag of stuff that just took up space. I don't plan on bringing anything for her besides her blanket and an outfit to go home in.

  • If you are very choosy about things for your baby (natural/ecofriendly/pure only) you may want to bring your own diapers/wipes/rash cream.

I am just bringing a typical diaper bag with a few different outfits (depending on if she is a bigger baby or smaller baby, and in the off chance that she turns out to really be a he, which happens sometimes) two different blankets, baby book (for hand and foot prints) diapers, wipes, rash cream. (the last 3 aren't because I'm choosy its just what I will need for a typical diaper bag.)

PS I fully plan to steal as many diapers, wipes, formula, nursing pads, etc. from the hospital as I can get.

  • I plan on bringing one NB outfit, one 0-3, a blanket, and making sure the car seat is in the car.
  • We were told by our childbirth class instructor to bring a carseat and an outfit for LO to go home in and the hospital will provide the rest. She also told us to snag as many diapers as we could from our room, lol.

  • You don't really need anything but a going home outfit.  I took two and I was glad I did, because DS peed on the first one while I was changing his diaper!  I also took a  receiving blanket for in the car seat (though it was colder out then).  They will give you EVERYTHING else.  The hospital nose bulb was FAR superior to the ones you can get at the store (much larger), so make sure you get ones of those while you are there.

I also took the baby book to work on while I was there (I was in for 4 days).

Oh, and I am bad and I stole his little hat he wore while in the hospital.

Are you sure you are bad? We tell our moms to take EVERYTHING that is in the crib home with them (excluding their t-shirts and blankets).

I guess I am an oddity, it really isn't necessary to bring clothes and blankets, but I will bringing my own stuff for baby. I would say that probably half our parents bring their own clothing/blankets to use throughout their stay, while the other half just use what we provide.

  • Phew!  That panic is gone now!  This whole idea of having a baby is so surreal to me still.  I am in awe.

  • At our tour of the hospital they said they would have everything we needed.  But said we may want to bring some outfits.  Don't forget the baby book though!!

  • Our hospital provides everything we could need.  I'm packing a blanket for DH to take home for the dog to smell, and a few outfits...a going home outfit and an outfit for hospital pictures.

  • I have the diaper bag packed but not with typical diaper bag things.  I have both baby books for hand & foot prints, my maternity leave form to get signed, multiple outfits since we have no idea when the girls will come home or how big they will be, and blankets for bringing them home.  It was easier to just put all baby related things in one spot instead of trying to put it in with mine and DH's things.
