my nurses at the hospital told me that they no longer clean the umbilical cord stump with anything, she told me not to put anything on it.... I have not read this anywhere else... It should be falling off soon but the other day there was a tiny bit of bleeding- now its dry blood- I have given baby a sponge bath since then... I am just worried that It needs SOMEThing?
Re: how r u attending to belly button?
I was wondering the same thing. DS has had a tiny bit of blood come from the underside of his. I think it's because he loves to lay on his belly on our chests and he will push himself up your chest, probably irritating it. I wasn't sure if we should clean it with anything so that it doesn't get infected, or just leave it alone.

We were told by our pedi not to do anything to it, just to fold down the top of the diaper so it doesn't rub against it, and to avoid submerging LO in the bath until it falls off.
It feel of cleanly when he was a little over a week old... no bleeding or issues.
