Worried... blood platelet count.

My OB called this afternoon to let me know that in two blood tests I've had over the last month, my blood platelet numbers have been low and that they need to keep an eye on it.

Apparently it's something that happens in 7 percent of all pregnancies. I can be caused by pre-e although my OB said that it's not likely that since I haven't had any other symptoms.

Basically, they are going to do some more blood tests and if my platelets are still low right before birth, it may mean I can't have an epidural. (which I would be ok with, since part of me wants to go natural anyways.)

If my platelets get worse, then it could cause clotting problems, which would be bad with childbirth. My OB said it's nothing to freak out about right now but I'm freaking out anyways because my family has a history of blood cancers/disorders and my sister has a clotting disorder.

Anybody had low blood platelet counts? T&P appreciated!

I don't have any experience with this, but sending lots of thoughts and prayers your way! At least they are being very proactive about this now, so hopefully you can get more info soon!

No experience with this...you're in my prayers...you may want to post on the national boards to get a larger audience...someone is bound to have experience with this.

I too am not knowledgeable of this condition; nor do I have it. Sorry you're having this problem. As for the T&P - you have mine as well as the others. I pray you'll accept them from me since so many don't care for me. GL
