Toddlers: 24 Months+

Is your 26mo-30mo old still using a stroller?

DS will be 27 months when LO #2 is born and I'm trying to figure out if a sit and stand or possibly even a double stroller is worth it. I already have a BOB and I love it. I just am not sure if he will want to be in a stroller at that point. We do like to take walks in the neighborhood, but maybe he'd be more interested in a wagon or something?

If you have two kiddos and don't have a double, do you have any trouble toting your tots around? Do your LO's walk next to you well if you ask them to? Thanks!

  • DS was 24 months when DD was born, and we did not get a double stroller. Most of the time he has no interest in riding in the stroller anyway, and if he does feel like riding I pull out a baby carrier and wear DD.

In most of the places we go, I wear DD and DS just walks next to me.

  • My almost 3 year old still does, although not as often as he used to.  For my evening walks around the neighborhood he will be riding in it like it or not since it's nearly 3 miles and I do it for exercise.  He also almost always goes in the stroller if we go shopping at the mall and outlet stores.
  • Since around 18 months old, my daughter has hardly sat in her stroller.  The only time she will sit in it, is for walks around the block.  We bought a Joovy Caboose Ultralight for our trip to Disney this past December.  Even though she doesn't like to sit, she liked to ride on the back and it was nice to have.  It comes with the infant seat attachment as well.  I decided to get the Baby Jogger City Mini Double (got it on sale at albeebay.com) for walks around the block.  It took a lot of convincing my husband to spend another $300 on a stroller, but I figure that I can always sell it on ebay or craigslist in a couple years since they seem to hold their value.

For regular outings out and short trips I plan to use our Chicco Cortina still with the new baby since my daughter usually walks.

  • Yes. We will use a stroller for a while, as we do not own a car.
  • We got a double strolller (DD is 30 months) and I kind of feel like it's been a waste of money. She just likes to walk. But to answer your question, she does not always stay right by me, she thinks it's funny to start running, which is hard to keep up hauling a big double stroller.

I wish she liked to ride in it more, because we love power walks around the lake in the summer for exercise and that's not going to happen with her slow pace.

  • DS still rides at almost 2.5.  If I am by myself there is no other option.  He won't hold my hand for more than 2 seconds and he runs.  He doesn't love the stroller, but we have a BJCS and they face each other and entertain each other.

  • I bought one almost exclusively for walks around the neighborhood because it was driving me crazy to not have that option. My DD walks at a snails pace, often complains, and I don't necessarily want to pull her in a wagon. I found a graco one at a consignment sale for $40. I wouldn't buy a full priced one personally but a search on craig's list or at a 2nd hand store might be worth your time.

My DD sometimes walks nicely next to me, but frequently walks off or runs away mischievously. That's always been her personality though.

ETA: I found it kinda neat that both your kids are almost exactly a year younger then both of mine (7/30/08 and 11/24/10 birth dates)

  • I think it really depends on the child. When my DD turned 2 she boycotted the stroller and we have barely used it since. I have friends though with 3 ye old who still love the stroller. I would hold off on buying anything till you are closer to needing it.

this!  Jude is over 3 and still uses it daily.

We have one car that my husband takes to work and I have 2 kids so I am sooo grateful for my stroller.  Jude loves it and it gets us where we need to go quickly!  If we're just out for a walk to walk, then he gets out and explores a bit...  we don't use it in stores, etc, when we have the car on weekends.  He walks then.

  • She rarely uses it.  I do use it if we go to the mall, but we very rarely go.  If I take her to the zoo or aquarium by myself I bring it, if nothing else for the walk to and from the car.  She's usually pretty good about staying with me, and I can push the empty stroller with one hand so I can hold her hand.  We have a trip coming up and DH will not be going with us.  So I will for sure use it in the airport and I'm taking it to Disneyland with us, although I anticipate she will do more walking than riding, at least until later in the day.

  • DD1 was 28 months old when DD2 was born. We got a BOB Revolution duallie, and while we don't always need the double stroller, I'm glad we have it when we do.

When DD2 was younger, I'd often use our single stroller for DD1 and wear DD2 when shopping or running errands. Now that DD2 is heavier and doesn't hate the stroller as much, I'll sometimes put her in the single stroller and let DD1 walk. But if I take them anywhere where I want to keep them contained, or where I know they'll both need breaks from walking, I bring the double stroller. For walks around the neighborhood or to the park, I'll ask DD1 if she wants to walk, sit in the double stroller, or take the wagon (now that DD2 is big enough to ride in it). She still chooses the stroller sometimes, which is actually better for me because there's more room to store all the stuff I inevitably have to bring along with us.

Of course, now I have the problem of both girls wanting to get out and walk, leaving me having to push the stroller and corral the two of them at the same time. ::sigh::

  • I have a rather laid back 2 year old and there is no way I could get thru a store with him not being in the stroller. We purchased a double and I love it. He was 24 months when the baby was born and just the use I'm getting out of it for walks in the neighborhood is worth it.

(Oh, and we have 4 strollers, lol. A Graco Metrolite, the Snap and go, a jogging stroller and the Contours Tandem.)
