Did I tour really early?

Went to the hospital tonight to do a tour, and we were definately the ones with the latest due date there! I like to be prepared, but maybe I was a little overly eager? There was one woman there who was due in 9 days! That seems crazy to me.

Anyone else tour their hospital yet, or is it just me?

Re: Did I tour really early?

  • We're touring in May with our parenting class. I don't think there is any wrong or right time though, whenever you want to do it then do it!

  • I don't really think so at all. My OB told me I need to get on it asap prior to my 28 week appointment, but that's because I'm scheduling my c-section then. Last time I did it along with my birthing classes and I was around 34-35 weeks at the time, but I don't think there's any right or wrong here really :)
  • I don't think you're too early, I'm touring next Sunday and I'll be 26 weeks

  • We are doing our tour April 16th. I was offered earlier dates, but since the 16th is on the weekend it just worked better. They never asked when my due date was, so I don't think it really matters how far along ya are.

  • I toured a few weeks ago. It just worked out that we were there and they weren't busy!

we toured about a month ago and there was a girl due after me so I don't think you did it too soon.  I know we did it pretty early but having the risk of pre-term and being super busy it was best time for us.

  • We've got our childbirth class in May which will do a tour, then we are also probably doing an official tour + pre-admissions in either May or June. I would have done it this month but the tour is tomorrow and H can't get off work.

I figure as long as you will retain the information why not go sooner when you are more comfortable physically and less distracted emotionally. You can always go again later if you feel so inclined.

  • We're going on the 16th. When I contacted them about tours, I just asked for everything available thru june. My FI is going through chemo treatments so we scheduled when he would have the most energy. His DD is taking the "Sibling Tour" June 9th, I wanted something much closer to the EDD for her (shes 4yo) (EDD july 8th) - the next kid tour would be june 30, which is too close to EDD, just in case...)

  • Way to be on top of it ladies!  I never toured with my first DD, and I'm considering her birth my "tour" for this one.  I don't think you can be "too early" as long as they aren't planning on doing any structural changes, and you remember all the things/places that are important if you have a birth plan you want to stick to.

  • I also toured "early" just because I wanted to do something. I was definitely one of the "young ones" there but I didn't really care since my doctor said I could tour it whenever I wanted.

  • You can tour a hospital whenever you want, it is good to know if you like the hospital too, at least you have time to make changes if you wanted to.  We are having DS at a different hospital than DD, so I will have to go on a tour, but I have not made any arrangements yet.  I will probably sign up for sometime in June.

I think the lady waiting till 9 days is nuts...sorry...last thing I would want to do the week before having a baby....

I don't think it is too early.  You want to be able to walk around and not be miserable...nothing wrong with being prepared.

  • We toured around 8 weeks or so...only because I wanted to see what hospital I liked best so I could make sure the OB I chose would deliver there. So, in order to pick an OB, I had to pick a hospital. There was also one lady on our tour that was due any minute...I told my DH she should just stay.

  • I was about 5 weeks when we toured LOL.  Actually my appt was already set up,because I wanted to check out two different hospitals while TTC to determine whether I needed a new OB.  We will prob tour again in June.  So no you are definitely not too early! ;-)

  • We're going at the end of May. I wanted to go with enough time in case I went into labor early, but not so much time that I would forget everything.

  • Mine is next month with my childbirthing class.  I had heart surgery there two years ago and it was wonderful.  So I imagine the L&D will also be nice.
