(Courtesy Peppernut) Do you have any pets?  Do you think they are aware that you're pregnant?  How are you preparing for their adjustment to the new family member(s)?  Any worries about how it'll work?

Re: ** PG > 35 Weekly Check-In + QOTW ~ April 5, 2011 **

  • We have 2 fur babies.  Sabastian is a russian blue, I know he knows something is up.  He has to lay with me everytime I sleep. He never did that before. Im not to worried about him.  He will most likly hide when the baby comes home & not really care.

Then there is Bogart our min pin.  I dont know if he is aware im pregnant. He is about 10-11 years old, I am the love of his life.  (We adopted him 4 years ago) Since the day he came home he as followed me around & whenever or wherever I sit down he has to be on my lap. He is the most loveable dog I have ever known.  Im not sure how he is going to take to "sharing" me.  He barks at DH or my DS's whenever they give me hugs & kisses.  If he's on my lap and they try to kiss me, his nose is right in there to!  I bought a bouncy seat last week, when I brought it home he was just looking at & tryng to see if anyone was in there.  LOL  I think it will take a few weeks of him getting use to the baby but then I think he will "protect" her/him.  We shall see!

  • Updates: Had my peri appointment Monday. We finally got the rest of the heart views finished during the ultrasound. Everything looks good. She's measuring around 4.5 lbs, which scares me because if we go full term, she will likely double that weight i.e. the 9 lb baby I was afraid of having LOL. We're doing yet another thyroid panel, although I'm not sure why, my thyroid is in the toilet and if I take my meds my blood pressure could rise, so they've been afraid to have me go back on them. Baby is head down and squished in there pretty good so I don't think she's going to be flipping head over butt anymore. Poor baby has her head jammed in my crotch and her feet jammed in my ribcage.

QOTW: I have 3 fur babies. My eldest is a 14 year old Burmese that my husband has nicknamed my familiar. She's followed me around since she was 6 weeks old when we adopted her from the humane society. She doesn't like loud noises, and she's not real fond of sharing me, but I hope she'll tolerate having the baby around and not feel neglected. She loves everyone she meets and loves attention so, I am not very concerned about her not liking the baby. My "middle child" is a 13 year old somali mix. He's the sweetest baby in the whole world, but a bit more independent than his "mamma cat" which is what we dubbed her when he was brought into the house. All he wanted was her to cuddle and love him and she wanted nothing to do with him for the first month LOL. The third is a terror.. She's an 8 year old maine *** we found abandoned at our old apartment complex.  She has issues with women, she has issues in general LOL. She's easily scared but can also be aggressive so she will be watched closely when around the baby. I think the crying will keep her away for awhile, so not too concerned.

  • Updates- I went to my first appt yesterday. Feeling a little underwhelmed about it. We moved here a year ago and I don't know anyone so I picked this guy based off of what info I found on the internet. Some of the ladies at my hubby's office said they'd heard he was really good and no bad stories to tell. He's really laid back, which is good, but I'm not sure he listened to my concerns 100% as my first two pregnancies were high risk bc of preterm labor and a slight placental abruption with my first.

I was hoping to get my first U/S but bc they were late getting to me in the dr office, so then it was too late for the third party U/S folks to see me (almost 5 in the evening). I had coordinated this dr appt with my DH's work schedule so he could be there for the U/S and so I have to wait again until next Tues for him to be able to come to the U/S. I am so happy DH is so excited to go with me. I think he was more bummed about not getting the u/s yesterday than I was.

QOTW- We have 3 inside pets- 2 boxers and an orange tabby housecat. The female boxer has always been my shadow, but she definitely knows something is up. She's extra clingy. The male seems to be clueless (go figure). The tabby, on the hand, seems to be afraid of me now. lol... I used to be the first lap he would hop into regardless where I'd be sitting and now he will come up and sniff me and run to my hubby lol...

I'm not too concerned about their adjustment to #3 since my other two kids have them "broken in" to the family circus of it all.  I just hope this baby is a sound sleeper! :)

  • Updates:  Had my 32 week appt. and like Michelle, baby is weighing in at 4.5lbs but I on the other hand am happy at that number, that would ONLY put her at 9lbs at 40weeks. I have been told by SO family to expect one over 10lbs! 9 seems doable! LOL  She is also head down and feet in my ribs. Tech said she seems pretty engaged and probably won't flip. The tech also explained that there is less fluid now ( normal) so her kicks and punches are going to feel harder now becuase there is not as much fluid to soften the blow. Man is she right!

    Question of the Week (QOTW):
    (Courtesy Peppernut)
We have 3 furry babies. I think the Chihuahua knows something is up. She licks me constantly. I don't know if with all the hormones I smell/taste different or what. But it is kinda annoying. The shi tzus (the other two are boys) are attached at my hip now. But they aren't real interested in the nursery. When we brought all the stuff from the shower home they could have cared less. I'm not too worried about the trasnition with baby. I think they will be fine.

Updates: How are you feeling?  Any events/news to share?  New pregnancy symptoms, or any that have disappeared?

Feeling good.  But I just told my DH that I'm mad that infertility & loss & a complicated 1st pregnancy has robbed me of just being happy to be pg.  I feel constantly 'on guard' over every little twinge & expect something bad to happen at any moment.  :(  He reminded me that so far this pg has been nothing but normal & told me to relax a little.

I have been feeling this little girl move around quite a bit lately!  yay!  :)  sooooo reassuring!

(Courtesy Peppernut) Do you have any pets?  Do you think they are aware that you're pregnant?  How are you preparing for their adjustment to the new family member(s)?  Any worries about how it'll work?

I have a 14 yr old cat, a 13 yr old cat, and an 11 yr old dog.  The cats have been ALL OVER ME since my bfp.  They were all fine when our twins were born so I'm not anticipating any problems on that front.  However, they are all getting kind of old, so they have their own issues and I'm a little worried about it being a little overwhelming with 3 elderly pets, 2 six year olds, a newborn and a DH who travels constantly!

anybody know why i can't use the bold, italics,  underline, or smileys features?!?!  thanks!  :)

  • (I love how The Bump censored the breed of McWhittaker's third cat.)

    Update

Weekly appt yesterday afternoon. My blood pressure has come down a bit (130 over something rather than 140 over something) but it's still too high and thus I'm still on modified bed rest, which means laying in bed on my left side whenever I'm not at work. I wasn't super consistent with doing that over the last week but now DH is going to nag me about it. I was also up another 5 pounds from last week. Related fluid retention. She is confident that it's just gestational hypertension rather than pre-eclampsia because the protein levels in the urine remain within a totally boring range.

Everything else looked normal enough. Fundal height didn't change at all from last week but she said that wasn't too unusual at this stage, when they're putting on weight instead of length. Next week I'll get the infamous Strep B swab and my first internal. This coming Saturday is our childbirth class, a one-time 10-5 session.

    QOTW

We have two indoor-only cats. They're both relatively new to us. I had another cat for 17 years but she passed away at age 18 in July 2009. We then adopted the (now) 6-year old from the pound a couple months after that and a kitten (also from the pound) another month later. So we're all still learning each other's personalities.

The thing about the older cat is that he ended up in the pound specifically because his prior family had just had a third child and decided they had no more time for pets. I personally think the odds are against cat brains actually being aware of such things and carrying the association forward to this baby and getting stressed, but many people do give them more credit for advanced thought processes than I do.

The only concern with the kitten (who is now a year and a half but still quite hyper) is that she likes to pounce upon anything that twitches and then thoroughly gnaw it. That includes DH and I while we sleep and (especially) the other cat. So she really needs to stay out of the crib. We put tin foil down on the mattress when we put the crib together and that has worked great. Usually she gets into everything but she really hates that stuff. It's been like that for several weeks now, so by May she will hopefully have lost all interest in the crib and not notice when the foil is gone. And we can always just shut the nursery door, although we haven't done that yet because I'm still using it as a dressing room.

If you use Chrome as your web browser, it doesn't support the toolbar/javascript so that stuff won't work.

You can either manually type in the bulletin board codes (which is what I do), or you can use firefox, internet explorer, etc. I'm not sure how good the opera or safari support is for this site.

    M/S still going strong...

I'm starting to really feel "big" now and I can tell when this baby is head down, he's a kicker!!  Mostly it's fun...but sometimes, when I'm trying to concentrate...*smile* he distracts me.  I guess I should get used to that!  Hubby made a comment last night - he thought it was cute but he said "Your FACE is getting puffy now!"  If looks could kill...I'm smiling about it today though.  My scale is broken, I was up 25 pounds but today's numbers say I've lost 12 pounds in a week.  I'm 99.9% sure the scale is broken.  Oh well.  Next appointment is next week - then I start going every 2 weeks.  I scheduled our birthing class.  Then RESCHEDULED our birthing class since it's the same weekend as our annual open house (which is the weekend following a car show - I've been asking DH to tell me the date...I had to find out for myself...)

    Question of the Week (QOTW):

We've got 2 boxers - 5 year old male who's a little clingy - but not particular about WHO he clings to so I think he'll be ok.  We've also got a 7 month old girl boxer who needs training...so I have to find a training class to fit in our schedule somewhere too between now and July.  Never a dull moment!!

  • Update: Feeling relatively good, except for the insomnia. Last night I hardly got 3 hours of sleep. Otherwise fine. Getting used to being big. I past the 1 hr glucose test, YaY! :)

QQTW: This is a sad subject for me. We had 4 parakeets and they are so sweet and fun, but had to give them away since we are moving to an apartment where they don't allow pets. Luckily they are with my brother in law and I get to see them often.

We have two siamese cats. One of them knew early on that I was pregnant b/c he was all over me at about 6 weeks, and still won't leave me alone. DS terrorizes them now so I'm sure they won't be very pleased another one is coming.

  • Updates:  Had my shower on Sunday, it was so lovely.  I think we had too many gifts because with 10 minutes to spare of the room deadline I was still opening gifts.  I am so fortunate to have wonderful family and friends.  I had a few issues with my registry where items didn?t come off and I didn?t get a gift receipt so I have 50+ newborn/0-3 month onesies and 10 qty of  2 pack hooded bath towels and newborn diapers that will last for 40 days (if I go through 10 a day).  I think I?m going to have to exchange some items as we have so many newborn clothes and no clothes after 6-9 months and didn?t receive any bottle nipples or bottles (I was a little surprised about that).

I went to the chiropractor for the first time ever and what a great experience it was.  The doctor said my hips were locked and the baby appeared to be sitting too high.  So with just one appointment they were able to open my pelvis area a bit (not too painful) and the baby dropped out of my lung area (haven?t been able to breath that good in a long time).  My sciatic has never felt better so hopefully it will last till the next appointment.

Question of the Week (QOTW):  We have 2 cats (9 and 14) and 1 dog (8).  I think the dog knows that something is up as our living room is housing all the gift bags and boxes of gifts from our shower.  He?s managed to pull out a few baby soft toys (I think because they have a rattle in them and sound/look similar to his toys) from the gift bags.  I think the cats know something is different because the guest room that has been empty for years now has furniture in it (My oldest cat has taken to the vibrating baby bouncer).  To try to prepare the the dog I bought a cd that has baby sounds (marketed to transition dog to baby) and he did well for the first 5 minutes but when the baby started playing with a squeaker toy he ran over to his toy box and barked and then started to howl at the cd player so we stopped that.  I planned to have my husband bring a couple of extra baby hats that we?ll have the baby wear and while I?m at the hospital he?ll bring them home for Jackson to smell and get a little acclimated with.  I?m not worried about it not working out, though my dog does bark when there are people walking their dogs or kids playing outside so I?m a little worried when the baby is sleeping and such.  I have complete confidence that if we continue to show affection to our ?fur babies? that they will come around to the new baby.

  • Updates: Nothing much on updates/changes .. feeling the baby move (a lot) more & more daily.  Still dealing with a little insomnia most nights.

    Question of the Week (QOTW):
We have a Schnauzer mix, Papa.  He knows something's up .. very clingy/licky/lovey!  My only concern is that he will feel neglected when the baby comes .. DH baby this dog so much, that he thinks he is a 30 lb baby!

  • Updates:

After getting our good news on the amnio last week, we finally announced the pregnancy, although many people at work still don't know. It's finally becoming real and we are so excited! Still no pregnancy symptoms and feeling great.

    QOTW:

No pets so nothing to answer there.

  • Update/intro: I am about 9 wks pregnant.  I'll have my official dating u/s on April 18 so we'll know for sure how far along and due date then.  My GP is guessing end of november.  so due before ski season and christmas woo hoo.  We are going to find out the sex of the baby at the 3rd u/s  (in May, I think).

Pets: We have one dog named Greg and he's not a big fan of kids.  We are hoping if it's 'his" he'll be better. I think he'll have a few months of baby not being mobil to get used to him/her.  But if it ends up for the worse we have a few friends that have offered to take him and give him a good home.

  • Updates: Still with m/s but at least it's not daily anymore.  I am now only vomiting every 2-3 days which is an improvement although the m/s and food aversions are REALLY getting old.  After a bleeding/cramping scare this weekend, we got to see our little baby on US and confirmed that he/she is doing ok after all =)

QOTW: I have two 10 lb bichons who are the loves of our lives.  One is oblivious to my pregnancy, but the other will not leave my side.  It is the cutest thing.  He will often lay his head on my belly and instinctively knows when I am feeling unwell.  We will slowly introduce baby furniture so they are not freaked out, begin to set limits regarding not entering the nursery, play sounds of a baby crying, etc.  I think that they will be jealous in the beginning, but I am hoping that everyone will eventually be great friends.  I've told them that it is ok if they love the baby more than me and DH now =)

  • Update: Had my work shower on Thursday, and that was really sweet.  Folks pitched in for a Babies R Us gift card.  I drove there and then my boss met me with a wheel chair so I wouldn't have to walk around too much.

I made it to 32 weeks (yay!) and had my growth ultrasound at the peri on Tuesday.  Baby is measuring 77th percentile overall, and 95th percentile on thigh bone length (not surprising since DH and I are both 6'0").  Forgot to ask the weight, :(  but I too worry about a 9-pounder (baby was 3 lbs 6 oz at 28 weeks).

Today was my 32 week OB appointment and it was remarkably normal.  We'll do another cervix check next time.

I'm feeling all right for the most part, at least when I'm sitting with my feet up, that is.  Walking around is pretty uncomfortable and slow-going.  My baby is also nestled into my pelvis and does head spins I think.  I feel kicks mostly on the right side but sometimes on the left too, and I can tell when baby shifts from side to side... definitely getting hard to ignore!  I have some bouts of indigestion in the evening mostly and sometimes food makes me feel ill like it did in first tri, but otherwise, I'm managing all right.

QOTW: I don't have any pets either (not allowed in our apartment).  :(
