Wawa/Subway

I have been avoiding all lunch meat since BFP.  My OB says to not worry about eating lunchmeat and he has only seen 1 case of listeria in 30 years.  However, I do not want to be his second case.  Anywho, do you think if I get a toasted sub from Subway or Wawa the toasting is long enough to kill anything?

  • When I spoke to my doctor's office a few days ago, they said to heat up all lunch meat before eating it. She actually said, "If you go to Subway, just make sure to have your sub toasted." So, you should be ok! :)

  • From what I understand, 30 seconds in a microwave will kill any bacteria! I just get it heated int he microwave at Subway and enjoy!! :)

  • Guilty secret...Subway has been one of my cravings and I've been eating it for weeks, no toasting. I know they tell you to be careful but when I thought about it, when is the last time you've ever heard of anyone getting food poisoning from Subway? A chain like that has huge incentives to keep the food safe. You're in more danger from the hamburgers you cook at home.

Funny that you say that, I always got food poisoning from there. I stopped eating there about 5 years ago.

I guess there's always someone to prove you wrong then Stick out tongue Only time I've ever gotten food poisoning was from a burger my FIL made...he's notorious for being bad at the grill.

  • I love Wawa!!!  I don't heat my deli meat at all.  I've been fine so far.  I do make sure I get a fresh made sub, not one of the prepared ones in the refrigerated case.  They make so many subs that meat doesn't sit there all that long.

I was just wondering the same thing about toasting.  Thanks for the info!

  • Yes, if it's toasted or even nuked for about 30 secs you're good.
