Birth-control question

I haven't started my period yet, but my dr said that I could start taking my bc on Sunday. I really feel like I should just wait till I get my period so my body isn't that much more jacked up. Anyone else been told to just start their bc without having a period first?

I haven't had my period yet, and I started the mini pill last night b/c my Dr. told me I could. So far so good.

Depends on what kind of BC it is. If it is a combo pill (progesterone and estrogen) then I would think you would wait until your period. But if you are EBF and doing the mini pill you most likely will not get your period so you can start it asap.

I think they have you start it before your period because you will frequently ovulate post-partum before you start your first post-partum period...so you could get pregnant before you even start.

If you know for sure you aren't pregnant then there shouldn't be any reason not to start it now.

I started my BCPs before my first PP AF, and on about day 12 of the pill, I started bleeding... hard. Had about a 2 week "period" and it sucked. Now I'm on my second pack, and so far so good. Be warned, though- apparently what happened to me happens to a lot of women! I was so tired of bleeding it wasn't even funny.

I had my Mirena put in last Thursday at just over 6 weeks pp. I had stopped bleeding from delivery at 4 weeks pp, and spotted for 2 or three days after having the IUD put in. Since then, nothing, no cramps or spotting! Hope it keeps up this way!
