anyone cloth diaper but use disposable wipes??

I was just thinking about the logistics of this. Normally you wrap the wipes up in the disposable diaper and throw it all away, but obviously with cloth you can't do this :)

I know my husband is leery about cloth diapering in general, so cloth wipes may be a little over the top for him. So for those of you who do cloth diaps and disposable wipes, what do you do with the wipes? We have a diaper genie for the times we are using disposables, should I just put it in there? And when we are out just put them in a disposable bag?? Thanks!!

  • That's what I'm planning to do. I'll just throw the wipes away, either in the diaper genie or the toilet if they're flushable. If I'm out, I'll just stick them in the wet bag with the diaper and take care of it when I get home.

This is our first baby, so I have no actual experience, but we plan on cloth diapering.  I'm going to have a small garbage in the baby's room.  If they're not terribly stinky, or that garbage needs to be changed, I'll throw them in there.  Otherwise, I'll do what I would do with a stinky disposable diaper - keep small bags by the changing table, throw them in there, and put that directly in our outside garbage.

  • We only use them if we need to do laundry (and are therefore out of the cloth wipes) or if we're out and didn't pack enough cloth wipes.

If I'm changing DS while we're out, it's almost always at a changing station with a garbage can right there so I'd just throw it in there.  If I'm at home I'll throw it in a grocery bag, tie it up and throw it in the trash.

If you're going to CD though, cloth wipes really aren't any more work or more of a gross out factor.

  • Thats what I am planning on doing.  My DH is the same way.  I will just plan on tossing the wipes.

  • Me.  I didn't like cloth wipes.  I don't wipe for pee, just for poop.  Poopy wipes get flushed down the toilet.

  • I'm thinking of using disposable wipes. I made a set of cloth wipes, but I don't think DH wants to use them.  The changing table is right next to the bathroom, so I'll just walk into the bathroom and toss the wipes we use. If we're out I'll wrap them up in the diaper and deal with it when we get home and I clean out the wet bag.

  • It seems easier to me to just use the cloth wipes if you are doing the laundry for the diapers anyway. That's what I am going to do anyway.

    Me too.

If DH isn't down with it, then get some disposable wipes and let him figure it out. We've got some disposables in the diaper bag for when we're out because I think it would be hard to get the cloth ones wet (I don't want to pre-wet them and have them sitting around getting moldy). Beyond that, I don't need to invent work for myself. If he does, he can go right ahead.

We use this with our cloth wipes when we're out.  You spray it right on baby's butt and then use the wipe.  It's really easy because then you store the wipes dry and only spray on as much as you need.  We were using honey chunks foamer with cloth wipes at home, but I prefer the homestead baby spray so I just bought some concentrate to make my own and save some money.

I might get a little spray bottle and mix up my own

I just figure: DH's problem, DH's solution. Like, I use homemade natural cleaning solution. DH doesn't like it, so he uses Lysol wipes. That's fine - but he has to remember to buy them, and he uses them when he cleans the bathroom. It's not my problem if he doesn't want to do things my way - it's up to him to make it work his way. And he does.

  • We don't have many wipes, but enough to get us through next wash. I use cloth wipes for pee diapers and disposable wipes for poopy diapers. I figure it still helps even if I don't use them full time. When we use disposable wipes we usually keep a plastic bag around the changing area, and small plastic bags in the diaper bag for when we're out.

  • I will probably have a little trash bin in the room or just run them across the hall to the bathroom trash.

  • If your husband is leery about using cloth diapers, cloth wipes might actually be BETTER for him.  You can get nice wipes that are much thicker and more absorbent than disposable wipes, keeping his hands further away from baby poop and allowing him to use fewer wipes in a diaper change.  And you can just toss the wipe into your wet bag or diaper pail to wash along with the diaper.

  • We already have 1,800 disposable wipes (!!) but will re-evaluate when they run out. Cloth sounds easier, especially in terms of only needing one pail/bucket in the room instead of two.

  • I'm planning on using cloth wipes at home, but keeping disposables in the diaper bag for when we're out and about. The less dirty things we have to carry when out and about, the better. Dh is completely on board with cloth diapering (he's actually really excited about it!) so I think introducing the cloth wipe idea to him should be easy enough.

Anything that's better for our daughter, environment, and pocket book.. he's on board with. But I wanted to approach it one thing at a time, instead of possibly overwhelming him.
