VBAC

GD VBAC

I just failed the one hour GD test and have set up my three hour.  My head is spinning.  If I end up with GD (which I didn't have last time)- I feel like I might as well schedule a c-section.  I know that having a defeatist attitude is not going to help, but I'm definitely feeling that way...

Any GD VBAC success stories?

Re: GD VBAC

  • Don't panic yet. I failed my 1-hr and was sure I was going to fail my 3-hr GTT too because I was on the high range of normal for the 3-hr with DD#1. And I passed the 3-hr this time with no problems!

  • I just had my GD VBAC baby on March 9th completely med-free and not induced (40w1d)!  I put extra pressure on myself to stay diet-controlled and it worked, but I must say that my midwife group was also very supportive and I know a lot of non-VBAC GD girls get pushed into delivering "early" even if they are diet-controlled.  Such a shame b/c current medical research doesn't support this, just like so many things in OB these days.  Hopefully everything will be fine, but if you do end up with GD please feel free to page me!

ETA:  I didn't have it with my first pregnancy either.  Like I just needed that extra hurdle to get my VBAC, right?  :)

Like chicscub, I had a GD VBAC at 40w3d (in December). I also didn't have it with my first pregnancy - my c/s delivery.  My daughter (C/S) was 8lb13.4oz, my son (VBAC) was 8lb 0.2oz

I took extra care to follow the diet strictly, monitor my sugar religiously, and exercise my ass off to help keep my sugars down as well as keep my weight gain in what my doctor considered the "optimal" range to help my chances of VBAC.

It can be done, with a doctor/midwife who has patience and doesn't want to get the baby out early b/c it might be big - but you have to really work hard at controlling the sugar and keeping your conditions optimal!

Don't stress - you still haven't even failed the 3 hour yet!  I've read several articles lately that link stress to increased chance of c/s (several different factors into play but nonetheless...).  Good Luck, let me know if you have any questions!

  • thanks guys.  i have my 3 hour tomorrow and will let you know how it goes.  i'm just feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment (go figure).   hormones aren't helping...
