Is it just me... ?!

or has anyone else had an ultra sound recently? I got one on Friday (I've been having complications) and apparently my little one is already 5lbs 5oz and measuring 37 weeks even though I'm only 34. She's also still breached and my doctor says that if she doesn't flip soon she probably won't and they'll probably just have to schedule a c-section. Has anyone else ever had any of this happen to them? I obviously don't want anything to be wrong with her, but I was thinking I'd have at least another two or three weeks to prepare everything.

Re: Is it just me... ?!

  • I haven't had an U/S since 19 weeks, but I don't have any complications.  My LO has been breech since 30 weeks, but my MW says not to worry about it until 36 weeks.  I'm not sure what would happen at that point, but I'm going to ask at my appointment tomorrow.

I saw a chiropractor today that does the Webster method, which is supposed to be helpful for getting the baby to turn.  You can find information on the technique and practitioners who know the technique here.

The chiropractor also recommended the Spinning Babies website for ideas on how to encourage the baby to turn.

    Good luck!

I haven't had an u/s since 20 weeks, and more than likely won't have another one.  The weight measurements on those aren't always correct - from what I've heard, they can be quite off the further you are in your pregnancy.  I know there are methods to try to turn the baby - not sure what they are.  I would be leery of jumping right to a c-section without trying to turn the baby.

  • we had one (our last) at 33 weeks.  we were measuring 34.5 weeks, at 4pounds 14 ounces. I have no doubt that he is now at least 5 pounds if not over that.  he was head down, but a little tilty.

at CB class, they said lie on your back, and raise your pelvis into the air for 5 seconds, hold, lower it. repeat about 15 times, a few times a day. That will flip a breech if you have one, and if you don't encourage them to go sunny side down.

  • I had 2 ultrasounds at 30 weeks.  I had been measuring 4 weeks ahead since 23w (and continue to measure that far ahead).  Baby was fine per the ultrasound, 3lbs 4oz and 45%.  She was also breech that day.

I had a level 2 ultrasound the very next day because they thought they saw a heart defect on the scan the day before and she was head down.

If you and your doctor opt for a c-section, it would most likely be after 37w gestational age, not by what you're measuring.  If baby is still breech, I'd opt for a version first instead of going straight to the c-section.

  • I had an ultrasound at 33 wks because baby was breech at anatomy scan (19wks) and I've been measuring 2 wks ahead in fundal height. LO was 5lbs 2 oz at that time. Thankfully she is head down now.

I hope yours turns. You still have time.

  • i had an u/s last Friday and I am measuring right on to my due date and she weights 4 lbs 5 oz and she is head down. I will likely have another u/s at 35 weeks because of my diabetes and high blood pressure.

I have heard people say great things about www.spinningbabies.com for trying to get baby to turn. I wouldn't want to rush right into a c/s but that is between you and your doctor! Good luck!

I was dealing with the same thing up until yesterday.

Our little girl was breech at 34 weeks, too. We just had an ultrasound yesterday and she flipped to head-down.

I also thought she wouldn't have time to flip on her own but she did! You still have time so try not to worry too much. I did do a lot of things I read online to try to encourage her to flip, so it's definitely worth a shot.

    Good luck!

I saw a chiropractor today too and she did the Webster Technique for some hip/back issues and she said the baby would be moving a lot for the rest of the day b/c it opens up more "square footage".  I'm not sure LO is/was still breech- at this point I suspect transverse from where he's moving, but he was all over the place and I think he's settled either back in breech or heads down now.
