Should I attend Meet the Midwives Event?

So, I have decided to use a midwife for labor (I am at a hospital that uses both doctors and midwives).  They have an event tonight to "meet the midwives" that deliver at my hospital so I can be familiar with them and ask questions.

The thing is, this event is at 7PM, which sadly is really late for me.  I wake up at 5 for work, and the thought of not getting home till 9 PM tonight is killer.

For those of you who have attended events like this, do you recommend them?  Have they made you feel more comfortable or did important things come up?  Or did you feel like it wasn't necessary?

Or do I need to stop being a whiny baby and stop complaining about how tired I am, and get my butt over there  :)~

  • I would totally go- I HATE the idea of someone I haven't met delivering my baby. I have met all three midwives at my practice, just in case.
  • It's only one night.  I would go.  Even if you don't have specific questions, others might that you will benefit from.
  • My DH and I went to a meet the OB's and Midwives event and I'm glad we did. It was good to get familiar with the Midwives I hadn't met yet and hear them talk. They were all so nice! Other attendees had some great questions too, so we both found it helpful and reassuring.

  • I would personally want to know who is going to be in and out of my Vag.

  • I would go, even if you decide not to stay the whole time.

Thanks for the advice ladies.  After hearing your responses, it does make sense to go.  I guess I was just being whiny and tired.  I took a nice nap and am now ready to go!

  • Ok, I feel like an idiot for almost not going to this.  I am SO glad I went!  It was almost like a 2nd hospital tour, and they went so much more in depth with their care.   It made me sooooo happy that I decided to choose a midwife!

I'm glad you found it useful!  The more you know about what to expect the better, imo.  :)
