yes, you can. if they'll let you! they are used to confined spaces. i recommend swaddles/swings/bouncy chairs, and being ready to just hold baby if they refuse it all, like my dear angel did.

Of course you can. Its more of a personal choice than anything. I wish I did it with my son in the beginning. I think he would have slept better. If you have monitors then I would (and am probably doing it this time) definitely do it
If you can fit it in your room, sure. We can't fit a crib in our bedroom (only in the spare bedroom) so we will only be getting a bassinet until baby is old enough to be moved to a crib. I'm actually thinking of getting the pack and play with the bassinet, so that when we travel we'll have a portable bed for baby.
You can put your newborn in the crib from day 1. The bassinet just makes things more convenient. You can have it in your room at night, then in the living room during the day for naps. They really aren't that big, so you might have more room than you think...
DS was in the bassinet of the pack and play for about 2 weeks. then off to his crib. We all slept better! I don't want my baby in my bed or my bedroom this time!

This, a lot of babies just aren't comfortable in such a big open space. Sometimes if we were at someones house I would have to put E in his car seat if I couldn't just stand there and hold him and he was sleepy because he didn't like being laid down in open spaces.
You most certainly can, anyone who tells you different is whack! haha My mom put both me and my brother in crib from day one. Honestly it will make your life easier than having to re-train them to sleep in their crib later on. Swaddle baby nice and tight if they are needing that close feeling. My son never liked that, he'd break out of the tightest burrito we could swaddle him in LOL

You can put them wherever you feel is best! We're planning on swaddling and having the baby sleep in our room in the pack-n-play until they are sleeping pretty well through the night and then moving them into their crib in their room.
With our boys they both slept in bouncy seats/car seats for the first few weeks since they both refluxed a bit so laying flat was uncomfortable for them, then went to the crib. So definitely didnt miss anything not having a bassinet.

If you wait until he/she sleeps through the night, he/she may be there a year!

We coslept from 3 to 6 months and I put E in his crib one day when he feel asleep for a nap and that night put him down in there to go to sleep. He went to sleep and slept the whole night, we never had an issue or needed to "re-train" him from sleeping in bed with us to sleeping in the crib.
You can definitely put them in a crib from day 1 and it doesn't have to be in your bedroom either. There are plenty of people that put the baby in a crib in the nursery from the very beginning. We kept our son in our room for the 1st 6 months and it was a bit difficult to transition him to his crib. You can do whatever you like as long as it's a safe sleeping environment.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

Yup...I plan on putting the baby in the crib from day one. The nursery is right next to my bedroom. I have a bassinet for downstairs, but you can certainly do without the bassinet.
After 2 years of TTC, our daughter was born on Oct 31, 2011! 7lbs 13oz 20 inches long ">

I'm speaking from more of a place of not waking up every 1-2 hours. So, by 2-3 months they will be in their crib in their room.
We did the bassinet at first until she was about 3 months and then tried transitioning her to the crib, while it was in our room, and that did not go well... So we had to put the basket portion of the bassinet in the crib with the railings up for a week or so and then lower the sides of the bassinet (ours folds up) so she could get used to the feeling of a crib. Then we took out the mat for the bassinet and laid that in the crib for her to get used to with her head at the top of the crib so she felt more confined than she was. And FINALLY she was able to sleep on her own in the crib... So it was a good 2 1/2-3 week process to transition her to the crib. I didn't want any issues with a new room, so we moved her to her own room shortly after that...
So, as PP have said, you can do either. I am thinking we wont have #2 in the bassinet for as long to avoid those issues. May even do it from day one... And, yes, swaddling blankets are your friends!!!
I don't plan on having a crib till at least 6 months-1yr. LO is sleeping in the pack and play. Since I will ebf, there will be no sleeping through the night for some time, so I plan on having baby as close as possible the first few months to save me from having to move around as much.

I liked having LO in our room when he was tiny. I actually kept him in with me until he was almost 8 months old. A little too long, but I liked being able to lean over the bed and see him.
I moved DD at 4 weeks and it took a couple nights before she was ok with it. I tried to avoid that by having her nap in her crib during the day, but the girl didn't nap in her crib until she was 3 months old. You just find a way. I did like the bassinet for those first weeks when I was getting up a lot in the middle of the night. We have next to no room in our bedroom and the bassinet I borrowed fit. (the pack n'play would not). I always recommend seeing if you can borrow one because they are not necessary, don't get much use, but can be very handy if you are bfing.
yup the crib is fine. we had DS in the PNP in our room in the beginning and he made so much noise we couldn't sleep at all so we moved him to the nursery. We used a sleep positioner and swaddled him.

I agree that a bassinet sounds lovely if you are breastfeeding. I can not. so I figure that for my husbands comfort (when he is working) if the baby is in the other room, it would be better. I can get up - go to the other room and feed the baby. If the baby fusses, it wont disturb my H.
and if my H does the nightly feed - it wont disrupt me!
DD HATED her bassinet in our room, it lasted 2 nights.....finally after no sleep DH says let's try her crib and she slept like an angel for 3 solid hours at a time.
so to answer your question yes you can.

I don't have room for both either. I put the bassinet in my room though so the baby is next to me and the crib in the babies room. I got a beautiful, sturdy, travel bassinet by graco. It is really nice for being a "travel" one and very stylish I must say. You can put the baby in a crib from day one but like a pp said the baby might not like it. The small space of the bassinet does seem to make them feel more comfortable.
