Hey Ladies - I just went through all of DD1's newborn/3 month clothes and decided to get rid of about a 1/3 of them (we had way too many and DD2 will be sharing a small closet with DD1). In your opinion - is it better moneywise to sell in lots on craigslist or consign? I shop for DD1 at consignments often now - so thought it would be nice to swap out for new jeans or for DD2's winter wardrobe (she is off season of DD1).
Thoughts? Is mom's and me the best place?
Thanks!
Re: Consignment vs. Craigslist - worth it? (ex. Moms & Me)
I personally would not want to deal with setting up individual C-List meetings...too much work. I am going to try to get rid of a ton of stuff at the annual West Seattle Garage Sale in May. I find that the least work and most bang for your buck...especially if you can get in on a community g-sale. Then I'll donate the rest to Eastside Baby.
If you have gently used name-brand items - eBay can be great.
I consigned some baby things at smallthreads in Issaquah and found the best deal is EXCHANGE - so pick a consignment store you like - and just use the credit towards new store purchases.
Or just wait for the next B&B Fair, consign it all and donate the rest. Some people did very well I think....
You'll definitely get a higher % selling at a seasonal consignment sale vs. taking it all to a shop. It means a little bit more work for you (but FAR less than selling on CL or eBay) but generally higher return on what does sell. Several ladies here have done very well at the Bumps & Babies Fair. There will be another one in August.
ETA: I just actually read through your whole post (I need to stop skimming) and realize that you're probably looking to get that stuff out much sooner than August. I'd recommend at least looking into the Creme Brulee Sale in May. I'm not sure how the timing/location will really work out for you, but it's worth investigating. You really do end up making more $ at these sales than at a typical shop.
