cooking help

Ok, since I couldn't find chocolate wafers for my life, I had to settle with chocolate chips.  They need to be finely crushed but I can barely get the stupid things to break, let alone crush.  Any ideas?

Re: cooking help

  • Put them in the food processor and pulse them?

  • If you don't have one of those, you could put them in a baggie and hit them hard with a rolilng pin or something else heavy.
  • I don't have a food processor.  I have been beating the chocolate out of them for ten minutes in a baggie and they just look "beat up."  They aren't breaking at all.
  • Have you tried chopping them with a knife?
  • I'm not very much help right now but for next time, I think you can buy chocolate wafers at Michaels or Hobby Lobby in the candy making/cake decorating aisle.  I got candy wafers at Michael's yesterday and I'm almost positive there were chocolate ones.

    GL with the chocolate chips!

  • This pie better be *amazing* once I get it finished.  Arggghh....so frustrating.
  • Do you have a veggie chopper thing?  We have one that cuts right through anything. It re-indexes every time so it can cut into really small pieces. I don't know if it would work...

I'm not sure what the chocolate is for, but what if you just left it as chips??

  • Oh yeah, good suggestion Kathy!  Would that work Jen?  The chips are already so much smaller than the wafers anyway.....

  • It's part of the pie crust.

Dad may not have a birthday dessert.  I'm getting way too mad to keep messing with it.  We got the chips done, but I really don't think this crust is going to work.  I don't even want to start the filling because if I'm not going to have a crust then I've just wasted time and ingredients.

  • go to the store and buy a chocolate graham crust pie shell :)
  • :(

what if you just put the chips on top, and forget about putting them in the crust?

  • we figured out the chocolate chips but I managed to screw up the crust with graham crackers
  • sorry ladies...I'm grouchy (as if you can't tell)

I just had grand plans of making my dad a fabulous homemade pie and $30 and 3 trips to the store later I have nothing.  I'm just aggravated and feel like a moron for screwing up a pie crust.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.  I used the veggie setting on my blender to finally get the chocolate chips chopped.

  • I know how frustrating that is, as I've done it myself many times - don't feel bad. Glad it worked out. Your dad will really appreciate it!
