Pre-registering/Checking-in

Ok all-

I know all hospitals are different, but my hospital has me registering at 28 weeks?  With it only being a week away I wanted to check with all of you:  Does this sound about right?  Have you already pre-registered/checked in?

Re: Pre-registering/Checking-in

  • My hospital allows you to pre-register up to 6 weeks before your Due Date.  Longer than that, your records get purged by the system for inactivity.  So according to my hospital's policy, 28 weeks sounds a little early.

  • I preregistered online about a month ago so 28 weeks doesn't sound too early at all.

  • I pre-registered yesterday.  I did it about this time in my first pregnancy as well.

  • Just looked at my hospitals birth place page . . . Guess I was supposed to hand it in at 24 weeks. oops! My OB hasn't said anything though. I'm guessing he'll tell me to at my 28 week appt.

  • I preregistered last time I was in for an ultrasound, only because they asked if I wanted to. I guess it depends on the hospital? I don't see why not.

  • On the bottom of my glucose test instructions that I just recieved yesterday, there was a note that said "pre-registering at the start of your 3rd Tri (28 weeks) is recommended" and then had information about how/where to do that in person.  I will plan to do that after my next appt (not 28 weeks, cause I'll already be there forever between the GTT and an u/s, but the one after).  My ob/gyn office is attached to my hospital, so it makes it easy.

  • My hospital wanted us to pre-register at the end of the first trimester. They don't want us having to worry about registering if we ended up going in for preterm labor. I've been registered since early January.

  • Mine wanted it at 20 weeks so that's what I did.  I got a confirmation letter in the mail so I feel confident that it was not too early (for my case).

  • They gave me the preregistration information at my 24 week appt and said I could do it at anytime.  I ended up doing it that day just to get it out of the way.

  • I have paperwork to pre-register at the hopital and my OB told me to bring it when I do my hospital tour around 6 months (which I should probably schedule soon...). However, I don't think my hospital has a set time when I have to register. I don't think they will reject you if it is past 28 weeks, but you might as well go for it (no sense in waiting if that is where you are going to deliver, right?)

  • We are given our paper work at our 8 week appointment and asked to fill it out and return it as soon as possible.  (no later than 6 months pregnant)

So, I certainly don't think 28 weeks is too early.

  • With mine I preregistered and then when I went in when my water had broken I still had to "check in" to verify insurance and sign a few papers.  Was 5 min instead of the usual triage.  Clearly if you're crowning they'd not make you sit there, but since I wasn't even contracting regularly I got to.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I was given a form to mail in for preregistration at my very first prenatal visit.  I haven't mailed it in yet.  I'm waiting until we move so that I can put my new address on it.

  • I had to pre-register at 15w.  So, doesn't sound odd to me!

  • I got the form to mail in at my first appointment - this post reminded me I need to check the date when they want me to mail that in. Probably check on that tonight but I remember reading it and think it was around 25-30 weeks?

It doesn't seem out of the range of normal though when you think about concerns for preterm labor or other complications that can arise.
