San Diego Babies

Family practitioner?

Hi all.  I'm new to this board, so here's a quick intro :

My H and I are 32 and are originally from the east coast.   We are planning to start TTC on my next cycle(which is when our insurance will kick in).

I am looking for a family practitioner that also delivers babies.  I'd love to go through the whole process with 1 doctor, and then continue with him/her as our family doctor afterwards.  Does anyone have any family doctor recommendations?

Thanks!

Re: Family practitioner?

  • I JUST signed on with a new doctor- Elizabeth Rosenblum with UCSD Family Medicine. She does prenatal care and is a pediatrician as well. She seems really smart and I like her so far, although she has only been my doctor for a couple of weeks! I will say that making an appointment there is ridiculous and makes me want to pull my hair out, unfortunately.

I'm an East coaster now living in SD too, by the way! I moved from New York a couple of years ago. How about you?

  • Thanks for the info! ?I posted here and on the nest, and was thinking that I wasn't going to get any recommendations. ?I'd love to hear about what you think of her as you go on!

I moved out here 3 years ago, and H moved out here 4 years ago. ?I am originally from western NY, but lived in Philadelphia before moving here. ?Where in NY are you from??

  • I am from Staten Island originally, and was living in Brooklyn. My DH is a Philly native!

How do you guys like it out here so far?

I will keep you updated on how things go with my doctor!

  • Welcome to SD!

Try checking out Sharp's doctors - www.sharp.com... I've been seeing them since I was a baby, my whole family is with Sharp, and pretty much all of my friends and coworkers.  I don't know of any family practitioners specifically... But when I moved back down to SD, I got a job at UCSD so naturally I thought about going with a UCSD doctor.  I was 25 weeks pg, hadn't seen a doctor in SEVERAL weeks, and STILL couldn't get in for 3 weeks.  So I looked into Sharp, got in right away and love all of the doctors/nurses/staff I've encountered at every single Sharp office (which is a lot... the OB, staff at Sharp Mary Birch, my DD's pediatrician, my endocrinologist, and a pediatric ear/nose/throat doc).

Good luck finding your perfect doctor, and TTC!

  • I wanted the exact same experience but learned quickly that my chances of having my doctor deliver my baby were slim. Whoever is on call when I go in labor will deliver the baby. I also have an HMO so that is part of the problem. So I chose the route of which is the best place to deliver. I decided on Sharp Mary Birch since that is all they do-- moms and babies. I've been there twice now and every single one of the staff there have been kind, considerate and compassionate.

The other 2 places I considered were UCSD and Scripps La Jolla. I've been with Scripps most of my life and plan on switching back once baby is born. I'm not such a big fan of the Sharp doctors I've seen. Though- after reading some of the posts on this board, maybe I'll try some new ones out before I leave!

  • Thanks for all the info everyone!  I am excited to start looking around at all the options.

And NY Chick, I sent you a PM.
