Insurance Question

So I got offered a new job today. Yay!!! Right? Yeah so I thought. Ok. So the new job won't offer insurance for 30 days. No Problem. H checked with his insurance and we can change to his under 'change of life'. So I was talking to his uncle who told me that we need to make sure that Anthem won't consider my pregnancy a pre existing condition and not cover me and I'm kind of freaking out. Of course they are closed and I cant find the answer anywhere online.

Anyone have any experience with this or know the answer? I know I might have to wait till tomorrow but I am also supposed to put my two weeks in and can't spend all morning on the phone with insurance companies playing phone tag due to meetings all am. Stressing out!!

Re: Insurance Question

  • If I recall, pregnancy cannot be considered a pre-existing condition. I switched insurance plans (from one Anthem to another) when I was pregnant with Maggie, and it was fine.

This is my understanding as well although I am no expert on this. But I can imagine the anxiety not knowing must create. Let's hope it's a quick, easy conversation with Anthem tomorrow.

And congratulations on the new gig!

I sure hope not. That would throw a huge wrench in my plans. And thanks. once this gets all straightened out I will be really excited but just stressed until then.

  • I agree with the others, it can't be considered a pre-existing condition.  Also, if you've had continuous group coverage, I'm pretty sure insurers have to cover a condition that is pre-existing.  It's when there's a lapse in insurance that it is a problem.

  • I agree with everyone else, it should not be an issue.

A change of job, as well as birth of a child, is considered a 'life changing event".  We switched from my husband's coverage when he lost his job to my insurance when I was pregnant and there were no troubles.

    Good luck and congrats.

Yep, this too! Totally forgot about that. Meg is absolutely right.

  • As long as there is no lapse in coverage you should be fine.  Good Luck!

  • I went from having no insurance while I was pregnant with Ethan (I was working for a nursing agency with no benefits), to starting a new job only one month from my due date, and picked up Anthem insurance with no issues.
