i had asked the question below about the 12 week screening that apparently sparked some conversations about Downs.....but now i've called and checked with my insurance and i have another question if you 2nd tri girls don't mind humoring me again please
my insurance just said i only get one routine ultrasound, and all others can only be if there is a problem. so i just had my ultrasound at 8 weeks....does that mean they don't cover anything else?? i can understand that now i'd just opt out of the 12 week optional one, but now i'm worried i won't get the 20 week one where you really find out if measurements, etc are ok. i have a hard time with the idea i'd see one ultrasound at 8 weeks and then they don't ever see the baby again til it comes out of me? i'm worried.
how many ultrasounds does your insurance cover? (and does anyone have united healthcare?)
TIA!
Re: how many ultrasounds are you covered for?
Your 20 week one is the routine one... I dont know why you got one at 8 weeks... that one should be labeled as "special"...
You might want to talk to your doctors about it.
You may only get one routine u/s but if your doctor orders any others that will probably be considered as having a "problem." I think what that means is that you can't just go and get an u/s b/c you feel like seeing your baby.
I get as my u/s as the doctor deems necessary. And yes, I have United, though all plans are different.
I've had 3, but the last one was a follow up to my 20 week one. We just changed insurance and I'm not sure how many they cover. I'm hoping 2, since the last 2 have been after our new coverage began.
From what I understand, most insurance companies will cover more than there typical number if the Dr. says that additional ones are medically necessary. At least that's what I was told.

Well, talk to your doc, hopefully it works out for you!! Good luck.
As far as I know all of mine are covered. I have had four already and am having my anatomy scan next week. I'm sure I'll have more after that.
My doctor wants to keep checking up on me because the first time I was pregnant, my DD has brain development issues and we lost her at 23w.
