Will and Dash are turning one on the 21st - we're having their little party that Saturday (23rd). It has to be that day because I work some weekends, so we can't shift it to the week before or after.
Unfortunately, that means it also coincides with Easter, and for some reason most of the people I know are taking trips out of town this year: out of the four families we've invited, two will be away (leaving Ben's parents and one of my friends and her kids).
It was never going to be a big party but it's turning out smaller than I anticipated...
Re: we're going to have like 4 people at the boys' birthday :(
that is a bummer, but like a few others have mentioned on here, they are only one. They will never remember anything from their day, much less how many people were there. Just think of it as "an intimate celebration" and enjoy the opportunity to really celebrate the day with them instead of running around trying to be a good hostess.
This is pretty much how I'm viewing it - when I found out that 2 of the families couldn't come, I sat there all bummed for a minute, then shrugged and said to myself, "Oh well...at least they're only one so they won't really know what's going on!"
Now I'm mostly just bummed because I can't make the cake I was planning on doing. Well, I can...we'll just end up with like 20 leftover cupcakes lol.
More cake for you and Ben.
And less cleanup too!
You guys will still have an awesome time and the number of guests doesn't change how much your two little boys are loved and adored by everyone. I hope you guys have a wonderful birthday celebration!
this! i, too, was disappointed when i realized we wouldn't be having a big party, ....we just don't live near most of the family... we just had my parents, his parents, my SIL, my aunt/uncle and my cousin and her kids. in the end, it was nice to be able to focus on celebrating it w/her vs trying to entertain a bunch of guests.
FWIW i'd still make the cake (it's so cute!) and then you can dole out the leftover cupcakes to coworkers, friends, etc

This is a good idea! Alternately, I could plan to dole them out and then eat them all myself. No? No. OK, I'll dole them out instead.
I'll take some cupcakes?
been on a sweet tooth kick as of late
That is a bummer. I don't throw get togethers very often, but when I do, it is dissapointing when others can't make it. Makes me sad or something, but then again, I'm a weirdo.
On the other hand, if I only had 4 people at LB"s bday party, I would have been less stressed, less exhausted, and wouldn't have had to run around and haul stuff all over the place, and I probably could have spent quality time with everyone. Just a thought. Not to mention, but I'm going to, the gross amount of toys you end up with afterwards when there are more people!
although I agree with everyone else. You can focus more on the boys instead of playing hostess! And you can take more fab pictures of them! I also agree re the cake. More for yourselves & more to share with others.
I can't believe it's almost a year since we were all fb stalking you to see when the pirates would make their arrival! They are so cute & their pictures bring so mch joy.
