Please rec a good place to buy appliances!

We bought a house! Woohoo!

There are NO appliances in the house that work, so we are buying everything (kitchen), and would like to get a set so it all matches. We dont have anything of our own b/c we are renting.

Where is the best place to get a good deal and good quality? Thanks!

  • I don't know either, but we have GE appliances and so do all of our neighbors.  They're pretty high end GE's and really, not great.  Most of our neighbors have had to replace at least one thing and the houses are only 10 years old.  Some have replaced more.  We have had to do some major repairs on a couple and minor repairs on all of them.

And we had a Kenmore washer and dryer that SUCKED.

So don't get what we have.  :)

  • Congrats!!!!  We had a great experience at Albert Lee in Lynnwood.

  • I always say to look at consumer reports first and then we usually buy from costco or best buy
  • Sears! They usually have pretty good deal -- watch for the big sales! They usually have good ones around holidays like memorial day...etc. Our brand in Kenmore which has been meh. We've had to repair the fridge (twice), microwave and one burner on the stove doesn't work. Repairs are always ongoing with owning, though. Congrats again!

This was going to be my recommendation. A majority of my client's have used them and the experiences have all been good. Sadly your options for appliance dealers is dwindling as there have been a couple that closed over this last year.

    Congrats on your new home!!!

  • Woo Hoo, congrats on the house.  Where is it located?

When we moved in here we did washer/dryer from Best Buy.  Nothing fancy, but they had a better price then Lowes/HD.  My parents recently did new kitchen appliances and found good "dinged" ones at Albert Lee. They don't have noticeable dings, but were at 50% discount.

  • You an gets great package deal at lowes. And if you sign up as a new home owner on their website you can get a 10% off your whe order coupon.
  • Congratulations on the house! The place my husband got ours is since out of business. I've hard good things about albert lee though. My Mom got a pretty smokin deal from loews last month. Also costco.com sometimes has pretty good package deals. We have maytag and are happy with them. Maytag also owns whirlpool and amana...our at least they did a few years ago. Good luck!

  • Congratulations on the house!  We have had to buy a lot of appliances lately between all of our rentals and house flipping, and we usually find the best overall deals at Sears or in the "scratch-and-dent" and Lowe's or Home Depot.  Often, their markdowns on the scratch and dents are more than 50% off... our current fridge is a $1700 fridge we got for $650.

  • Whoever has the appliances you want at the lowest price (including delivery and install).  Home Depot isn?t going to service your warranty so who you buy from doesn?t matter much.

That said?we had horrible customer service with Albert Lee last years. They made it right but it was such crappy customer service overall, I won?t buy there again.  We?ve had good luck with Lowe?s (register online as a new homeowner to get a 10% discount) for our water heater and washer/dryer.

  • Thanks ladies!

  • Congrats again!! I think we ended up getting our washer/dryer at Best Buy. Jeff did a bunch of comparison shopping and they had the best price. I don't think of them as an appliance place but they had a good selection.

  • Congratulations!  We have also had good luck at Sears.
  • My step Mom has sold appliances for 40 years and has nothing good to say about Sears, FWIW.  She's a huge Kitchenaide fan, over Bosche, Miele, Vicking and all the other high end brands.

We just bought our Kitchenaide dishwasher through Pochels (they have Tacoma and Fed Way stores) and had a great experience.

  • How exciting!  Congrats, L!!  I'd definitely check Sears (and the Sears Outlet).
  • we just bought a washer/dryer from Home Depot. They had the best price - what we were looking for - free delivery and installation.
