I waited about 2 1/2 weeks....basically just because we had an appointment at the pedi and I wanted to talk to her. I'd say you can start whenever you feel comfortable. DD didn't really like the cereal...we did rice then oatmeal bc the rice made her constipated.
I started with avocados first. Then we did peas. Now we are on peaches. She loves peaches. I am mixing peaches and avocados together for her bfast.

We started cereal at 4 months, but didn't start baby food till 5 months. We tried carrots at 4.5 months, but he was really gassy & fussy. We decided to put it off a couple more weeks after that.
As far as I can tell from looking around at different info, it's all basically up to you, just so long as you wait it out on one food to make sure there's no reaction before introducing a new one, then you should be fine as long as you're not mashing up donuts for your kiddo or something.
ETA: I'm going to make my own baby food, but wanted to feel out what he likes and doesn't like before I made entire batches, so I grabbed some jars of stuff for when he's ready for it so I can see, from looking at all the different kinds, you may wanna know that on beech nut single ingredient baby foods, the ONLY ingredients are that given fruit/vegetable and water.
I started with cereal alone for 2 weeks and then started her on veggies (carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, squash, and green beans). She liked all of the veggies but once I started apples and bananas, she hated both of them. I have since tried avocados and she liked those and I'm going to move onto pumpkin after that. Then I will attempt to try the sweet fruits again with peaches and then pears.
I have done both jar and fresh foods.

My pedi said to do cereal for 1 month before starting other solids - so that is what we did. I started rice first and then oatmeal. First solid after cereals was sweet potatoes. Oh, and we started when DD was 4 months.
We started giving C avocadoes and bananas mashed up first. We only give him cereal once or sometimes twice a day because the peditrician wants to up his iron, and the second serving is mixed with pureed fruits or veggies. Cereals tend to be empty calories for babies if it wasnt for all the stuff they fortify it with, and its more affordable than jarred food.

Four-day increments ... but the pedi told me today that we only have to wait two days since we don't have a history of food allergies.
We started two weeks ago and she's had sweet potatoes, carrots, peas and bananas.
