PEople say if your in pain then baby is latching wrong= okay well I wanna know how many ofyou are in pain? I refuse to believe its because he's latching on wrong- it hurts!! And if your not in pain- can you describe your technique to me?
I am! The pain usually subsides after a minute or two and its worst when I'm really engorged. We are also currently using a nipple shield for every feeding.

I am...when he latches it feels like he's biting me. But Dr. said hes gaining wait and getting enough so I'm not concerned. I think I heard it will go away after a few weeks.
Nipple pain is the worst but I think it's normal and not always indicative of a latching issue. I can remember crying because of the pain in the middle of the night. However, it got a lot better around 3 weeks (maybe 3.5). I think my nipples got slightly "callused". (yucky!) Hang in there. It will get better!
The first few days it hurt REALLY bad. Like, take my breath away, bad. I was worried because I always heard that if it hurts, the latch is wrong. However, I think it was just because my nipples were sensitive to this new activity, and because LO was sucking really hard and not getting much. She'll be two weeks on Thursday and it doesn't hurt anymore. Her latch is still the same.
It has been extremely painful for me for about the first thirty seconds as well too. I have gone to the lactation consultant three times due to extreme nipple pain. LO is latching wonderfully. So nipple pain does NOT necessarily mean a bad latch. She said that some women just have very sensitive nipples so it's not necessarily due to latching issues. She also said that between 4-6 weeks you should notice a drastic difference in pain problems with high sensitivity. I am about to hit three weeks and I already notice a big difference even from a week ago. Right now I am using hydro gel pads to help sooth the pain. I only take them off when I breast feed (placing them in the fridge to add extra cooling comfort). Also, I use the football hold to make sure LO isn't up against the breast she isn't nursing on (since that causes me pain right now). Good luck...hopefully something in my post was helpful

I have one side that hurts a lot, like I dread feeding him bc of it but yesterday at his 2 week check up, his pediatrician helped us some. I didn't think his latch had changed but she said he wasn't opening wide enough. The other side doesn't hurt anymore at all. I can't wait for both sides to feel as good as my left side. Everyone says it will get better and easier.
Re: Who is in pain when baby latches?
Ditto on this!
