Rec your cleaner...

I've been trying to be more aware of the type of cleaners I use around the house, especially with a new baby coming.  I typically use a vinegar/water mix or bleach water around, but I want something that is all purpose, that I can use anywhere, without worrying about the kids being around it.

I just bought a bottle of Seventh Generation all purpose cleaner, and it works great, but it smells like crap.  Seriously...

I've heard really great things about Shaklee's H2, but I'm skeptical.

What do you use?  What do you hate?  TIA!

Re: Rec your cleaner...

  • DH is very sensitive to cleaners. I cannot really use anything commercially made.  I personally make my own using Dr. Bronner's soap. https://www.drbronner.com/ I find when I make my own, I can adjust the scent to my liking.

The Eco-Friendly Family board is also a great resource.

GL and I hope that you find something you like.

  • We use vinegar and water with essential oil added nice smell we use it on everything as a multi-purpose cleaner.

Steam cleaning wood/vinyl floors is really good for babies you are only using hot water to clean the floor.

l never use bleach, or harsh chemicals, we even make our own laundry detergent. My DH was skeptical of the whole Eco home made thing but now he loves it, its so cheap and works just as well as the expensive chemical stuff.

  • I like to do homemade cleaners that are "green". I'm not by any means a big green freak, but there's hardly any smell which is good for me and my husband since those smells make him sick. Go to https://www.thedailygreen.com/ , they can tell you how to make natural disinfectants and the like.

  • Yuck I hate Seventh Generation! And it's pretty pricey. I LOVE Trader Joe's brand all purpose cleaner. It's inexpensive, has simple ingredients, and it works great! I use it on everything. I also like the brand Babyganics (sp?), which the sell at BRU.

  • I just hosted a Norwex party and I love their products!!  They sell towels that have silver, I believe, in it; so all you do is wet the towel and wash away, NO CLEANER.  The silver in the towel will kill all the germs and not spread it like most towels.  They have products like this for your bathroom, car, laundry, body care, etc and I can't say enough great things about all of it!!  They do have some all natural cleaners for tough grime like in your tub and stove.  Check out their website and I would highly recommend hosting a party, their incentives for doing so are crazy.  I got over half their catalog for free for hosting!!!

  • Cool, thanks for the recs.  We make our own laundry detergent, which DH just rolls his eyes at.  He likes the savings but doesn't understand why I prefer the homemade to Tide.  As far as the bleach goes... I LOVE the smell of bleach.  I know I'm crazy. I guess my brain just thinks bleach=clean.  I don't use it much... usually only if everyone in the house is sick, and on hard baby toys, and then rinse them after.
