DD was a week and a half away from being 4 months. I really just couldn't wait. She actually did awesome. Then when we went for 4m check up, pedi told us to start solids bc she was going thru a growth spurt (was STTN--now up 3 times a night starving!).

They get to where they want to put everything in their mouth but that doesnt mean they are ready to eat. They should be able to sit up for short periods on their own with some support, and shouldnt be automatically sticking their tongues out to push food or the spoon out when you try putting it in their mouth. Many pediatricians will only tell you to start at 4 months or earlier if the kid needs iron or has reflux. If the pediatrician says to try solids but doesnt care if its cereal or not, I recommend avocadoes. Easily mashed, no cooking needed, full of the good monounsaturated fats and other good vitamins. Same with bananas, but with fiber.

Re: Starting cereal early
I'm just thinking of trying a little. She seems hungry and seems like she wants to eat. She has all the signs to begin eating minus being 4 months.
I just don't want to get in trouble
