How do you hand out candy?

Do you let the kids decide what they want and how many pieces?  Tell them how many pieces and let them choose which?  Pick out and hand the candy to them?

I tried making this an official poll, but stupid nest wouldn't post it.

Re: How do you hand out candy?

  • I bag them and hand them out.

No way do I let them stick their hungry, greedy, grubby hands in that basket.

Yes, I will be that old grouchy woman who yells at children to stay off her lawn.

  • I just grab a hand full and put it in their bucket or whatever.  DH insists that I give each kid a lot b/c he wants them to think we're cool.  :P
  • I have a pretty complicated system.  You don't want to hear it.

    Oh yes we do!

  • The amount of candy they get is porportional to thier cuteness, but since i am a bitter biitch this year we will see.

  • Well, our house and costumes are usually so scary that if the kids even venture up our walkway, they are usually too scared to even reach into the basket, so we normally just grab and put in their trick or treat bag.
  • I let them pick 2-3 each. Unless it's really slow, they can take more.
  • It depends on the age of the child.  If they are really little I let them get their own.  If they are older I just grab a few pieces and but it in the basket.

  • I grab a handful and put it in the bag/basket. Except for the last few years. The one trick or treater I had got about 10 handfuls
    1. I look to see how old they are
    2. I look to see how cute their costume is (if they are wearing one)
    3. If they are beyond adorable, I let them take whatever they want.
    4. If they are annoying and greedy, I only give them 1 piece.
    5. If they are really shy, I ask them what they want.
    6. If it's an adult with a baby, I look at them funny.
    7. If it's an older kid with a pillowcase and no costume, they get nothing.  NOTHING!
    8. If it's your normal everyday trick-or-treater that says "Trick or treat?", I put a few pieces in their bag.
    9. If they just come up and stand there with their bag open and look at me like I'm an alien, I ask them what their business here is.

LMAO!  I am so using these guidelines this year.

I don't know if I should post this inside or outside, for their sake or mine. But I think I will have to print this and post it for myself/H to use for this years handouts. I've threatened to card kids that look too old (like 16, trying to pass off 13/14).

  • I may have to use pmarie's system this year.  I usually just grab a huge handful and dump it in their bag.  I do think I give the cute, little ones or the ones that have creative costumes a little more than the others though.
