TTC after 35

I hate trying to make plans in advance..

My mother and sister have been annoying me about Easter weekend. I kept saying I wasn't making plans until the last minute as I wouldn't know when our IUI or follie checks would be. I said I would not host at all as it is too much for me right now. Despite this, they kept asking. Finally I said "make your own plans and if we are free, I will let you know".   Today my sister sends me an email asking for dates in June that I am free for a get together with her friend at my house.  I just told her she can pick a date but just realize that I may have to cancel if it is my ER or ET date since we should be doing IVF in June.  I just know she is going to give me a snarky response.  I hate that it is so hard to make plans with IF!!  I will probably miss my friend's bridal shower on Saturday morning for a follie check or the actual IUI...

Just venting on this rainy Monday..

  • I am facing that now, too as IVF approaches.  I feel funny saying I may have a medical thing pop up, who wouldn't know if they have a medical procedure etc in advance, well those having fertility treatment, ugh.

  • Ha ha... that's my life right now, trying to coordinate my work schedule around IVF. Fortunately I spoke with my RE nurse this morning and I'm going to use birth control pills to schedule my cycle around my work trips. Otherwise this will never happen!

There is probably a description somewhere online of the IVF process you can share with your family members. Maybe that will help them understand. My mom just read the new Jodi Picoult book which deals with infertility and she was like, wow, I didn't realize how much you'll be going through!

  • I hear you - I just cancelled out of an out of state meeting for June, as I didn't want to have to try to figure out if I was going to be "available" for it.  I have a pretty small family, and my mom knows about our issues, so I haven't had any issues on that front yet...

  • Right there with you sister!

My girlfriends are trying to make plans for a cruise. I can't commit to anything because if I DO get pregnant, I have a limited window for travel. And if I DON'T get pregnant, I need to save my money for all this IF crap. Ugh!

I am too much of a planner for all this uncertainty.

Single Mother by Choice. Life didn't work out the way I planned so I did it on my own. • I'm not at the point of worrying about treatment schedules, but I hate feeling like a slave to an unknown schedule, especially dealing with work.

I hope your mother and sister find some understanding.

  • I am finding this to be a problem as well. While i am hopeful that my most recent IUI has been successful, my nurse and doctor want me to think ahead just in case.  The doctor is suggesting IVF for the next cycle and I am not sure I am ready for it yet. however, I may have to be ready sooner than I want to be, because of scheduling.

I work for an NFL football team, so the entire month of April is prepping for the draft, and my boss is front and center of that prep, and I do not want to ask him if I can be out for even if it's just to come in an hour late for an IUI. Then in May, we are going to Vegas for a much needed getaway which would rule out an IVF becuase I won't be around for the necessary monitoring and I would ovulate the week we are gone so IUI won't work either. Then at some point in June the embryology lab closes down for an OSHA inspection which is really infuriating to me because that takes me out to July, which should be quiet, but since so much is up in the air with the NFL right now it's uncertain. And August I am away for 3 weeks for training camp and then September the season starts and being out of the office at all is not an option. It kind of sucks actually.  And I am starting to stress about it already.  NO ONE that I work with knows I am doing this, and I am not discussing it with anyone, but even if I did, this is not something that the women I work with care about or would be sympathetic to. They are single, younger and not interested in having families at this point, and it would make life more stressful.

As it looks now, I could start taking estradel when I get my period in early May and have the IVF done prior to the shutdown of the lab.  So I shouldn't complain because I have an option, but I just thought I would have a little more flexibility and time to make that decision.

Sorry about the rant, I didn't think I would get that worked up!

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

  • This is one of those posts that we all can related to!  I hate that I skipped what could have been a great ski trip this winter.  And I know exactly how crazy I sounded when I told work I'm having a medical procedure but not sure exactly when...I mean they must think I'm a moron!  I finally told my boss.  She sounded very supportive...I hope that really is the case.
