I have plans to go to yoga today (not prenatal). I am 5 weeks. Is this safe? I don't plan on doing anything involving my abs, but there is a lot of bending involved. What do you think?
At 5 weeks, you do not need to make any modifications. Just stay hydrated and don't do hot yoga. If you're in an advanced class, you might skip things like headstands (I'm not that talented). Talk to your instructor when you hit ~12 weeks and they can direct you on modifications. I still did poses on my back until they became uncomfortable around 30 weeks; I still do light bridge poses that have me on my back a bit. I still do balance poses. I still do twists - I just sub seated gentle twists for deep balancing twists.
Don't quit on yourself so soon - you will feel so much better if you keep doing as much as you can, as long as you can.
My yoga instructor let me do everything like normal till I was in my second trimester and then I switched to the prenatal yoga until around 32 weeks. After that I was put on bed rest and could not go.
Re: Yoga? Not prenatal
I'm still in my not-prenatal yoga class.
