Which classes at Northwestern Prentice did you take and what do you recommend? I am not sure if the breastfeeding class would help as it sounds like they show a video and give you a book. I have signed up for the New Born Baby Care and the Pediatric Care classes.

Re: Baby/Parenting Classes at Northwestern Prentice
I didnt go to any classes but went on the hospital tour (which is free). If anything, would recommend a CPR class if you've never had one.
We took the Great Expectations class, and liked it. But I've heard it really depends on what instructor you get. Definitely do the hospital tour though no matter what.
Regarding the breastfeeding class, I personally would forgo the class and hire a good Lactation Consultant instead.
My doctor has told me to wait to take most of the classes, what is the great expections class? Can I take it now??
You can sign up for any class whenever you want. Your doctor probably told you to wait as most people take them later on in their pregnancy. Here is a link to all the classes they offer.

We took the breastfeeding class and it was really helpful! The CPR one was a must on our list of classes. We walked out of the class that offers tips on how to wash your baby and swaddle. (There was more to the class but we did not stick it out) We like the great expectations class and did the hospital tour.
I would for sure go to the breastfeeding class, cpr and great expectations class. We had a lactation consultant come around after our son was born with any issues we had.
GL!
We took Great Expectations, Breastfeeding and Infant CPR.
Definitely take Infant CPR if you're not up on the latest and greatest techniques.
Great Expectations was really helpful for DH to get his mind around the fact that we were actually going to have a baby and what the process of actually having the baby entailed. I probably knew most of what they covered (having read a lot here and elsewhere), but it was informative for him. It was also good to go on the hospital tour.
BFing I probably could have figured out on my own, but I found the class helpful - it was, as PP said, taught by an LC. BFing was totally new to me, so I think I gained some comfort during the class. I also think DH gained a little bit by being there in terms of how to help me out with BFing. He and I were surprised by how many husbands were there (almost 100%).

They offer weekends too. We did the weekend Great Expectations and really liked it. I HIGHLy recommend a BF'ing class. BF'ing is harder than pregnancy I think. We haven't taken CPR yet and are really regretting that. With a sick baby at home coughing DH and I are both kicking ourselves for not having done it yet.
