Preemies

this seems like the most appropriate place to ask this

a few days ago my aunt had a preterm prelabor rupture of her membranes at 30 weeks she will now be living at the hospital until she delivers the baby while they maintain her pregnancy and monitor for signs of infection

just last week she and i were talking about maternity clothes and how she needed some, i offered to gather up some of mine for her and she accepted. do you think bringing them to her now would be welcome or silly? she will be living at the hospital for at least the next 4 weeks and i would think clothing would make it feel a little more homey

Re: this seems like the most appropriate place to ask this

  • While I was on hospital bedrest I wore all my own clothes, but I only wore comfy things. I wore all my maternity yoga pants and tops. I had one pair of jeans and a nicer top there, but that was it. You are constantly being poked and prodded so wearing nicer clothes just isnt practical, and if they need emergency access to you, they'll cut it off. But sweats are awesome, so I would definitley bring her those.

I would ask her though because if her membranes ruptured she may be in a hospital gown for awhile while they are monitoring for infection, but I'm not 100% sure as my water broke while I was already there and about to have a section anyway:)

    Good Luck to your aunt!

  • Just ask her- also offer to bring any nightgowns or robes you may have. If she feels she still needs them then she'll let you know. If not, offer to bring something else to make her comfy (pillows, new blanket, slippers, etc).

  • the best thing on hospital bedrest for me was maternity gowns/robes. They kept trying to make me stay in the hospital gown :/ so I couldn't wear sweats but finally convinced them to at least let me wear my own gowns.

  • When I was in the hospital with pPROM, I was relieved to have my own clothes there. I couldn't stand having the hospital gown on as it was a constant reminder of not being able to be out in the "real world". At least with the real clothes I was somewhat given a sense of normalcy. I really think it would benefit her if you brought them to her. It always feel better in real clothes while in the hospital that long.
