When did you start time outs? I'm not sure if L is ready or will be able to understand but we need to do something. Every time he gets angry he hits and this behavior has been happening more and more often lately. I'm not sure how to react. It is not always possible to just walk away and sometimes that's what he wants anyway. Any other tricks I can try instead of time out?

Re: Time out
We started timeout right before DD turned two. She seemed to get it, even if she was only in timeout for a minute or so. We use a timer, put her in the same spot every time and tell her what she has done wrong. If it is something she did towards one of us or the dog, we encourage her to apologize afterwards. She's up to two minute timeouts now.
More recently, if she is doing something naughty, I tell her I'm going to count to three and then there will be a timeout. That seems to work pretty well with her, but only within the past few weeks. I'm not sure if she would have understood at a younger age.
