I was surprised that my Dr is already asking me what we will do for BC PP... I'd rather not go back on the pill, and I'll be bfing...she suggested an IUD. We are planning to try for #2 around 1 year (we're getting old!) and a part of me just wants to do NPF...but that worries me a bit.
What are you planning? Are you already thinking about this? Will I even have time for sex? HAHA!

This. I wasn't on BC for 2 years before we got our BFP, and any kind of hormonal BC makes me crazy. I've had the Mirena IUD, and it was the worst experience of my life.

Yup. The March of Dimes even lists it as one of the increased risk factors for premature birth- I hadn't heard of it until DH went back to the fertility clinic at 3 months postpartum to discuss our second pregnancy.
From the MOD website, no mention of 18-months apart...
Which women are at greatest risk for premature birth?
Three groups of women are at greatest risk. These include women who have had a previous premature birth, women who are pregnant with twins or more, and women with certain abnormalities of the uterus and cervix. Treatment during pregnancy with the hormone progesterone can help reduce the risk of another premature birth in some women who have had a previous premature birth. These women should discuss with their health care provider whether this treatment is right for them.
Because Dh's getting deployed within months of LO's birth, we're just going to use condoms and NFP. I really don't want to go back on the pill and I'll be BFing, so that limits my options anyway. Things like the IUD aren't cost effective with DH being gone and us planning on trying for #2 when he gets back.
Certain medical conditions during pregnancy also may increase the likelihood that a woman will have preterm labor. These include:
[...]
Short time period between pregnancies [One study found that an interval of less than 18 months between birth and the beginning of the next pregnancy increased the risk of preterm labor, though the greatest risk was with intervals shorter than 6 months (9). A woman should discuss with her provider the best pregnancy spacing for her.]

Not quite third tri yet but just lurking...
I think DH and I will just use condoms after the baby comes. Weirdly enough, withdrawl worked for us for 5 years and I didnt get KU till we started trying. But, I know pregnancy changes your body sometimes, and I don't want to risk it. I am BF but I don't like the pill so condoms will have to do.
Either the mini-pill or Mirena.
I didn't mind the regular pill, but methods with estrogen don't mix with breastfeeding. We don't like condoms, and I don't trust NFP-ish methods when my hormones and sleep are going to be so messed up. I kind of think anyone that goes that route better not care too much when they get knocked up again or just plans on not having sex.

After #1, I went back on BCP after 6 weeks. I ended up stopping at 6 months PP b/c we decided to start TTC #2.
After #2, I got the Mirena b/c I knew it would be 2-3 years before TTC if that.
Now after #3, I'll be getting my tubes tied because we are D-O-N-E.
IF you plan on trying in a year, I would not recommend the Mirena. Maybe the mini-pill and NFP?
