Babies on the Brain

does this happen elsewhere?

in recent years there has been a growing trend of "presents for halloween"

as in - family members do up special treats for closely related/close friends kids

i can justify doing a special treat bag, a bigger treat bag for those kids, than you would give to regular tricki or treaters, but its crossed the line into PRESENTS

i do NOT want my kids expecting presents at halloween ... whats with these people?

my mom will have a gift bag full of stuff, usually a pair of pajamas, a barbie doll, pencils, and a bunch of candy (basically the equivlient of what i got at easter as a kid)

i have 3 or 4 aunts that will have special bags done up for nadia, and one cousin that already msgd me on facebook and told me to stop by to get nadias gift

this angers me.

Re: does this happen elsewhere?

  • Both my parents and DH's always send/give us something for Halloween. Since we grew up getting small gifts I don't think anything of it beyond my mom likes to shop. She also gives us gifts for Valentine's Day, Easter, 4th of July, etc. Any holiday with a good color scheme lol.

  • When we were little, my Nana used to give us little toys, like a barbie or something. Then she started giving us $5 and then just stopped altogether.
  • oh sh*t please tell me i'm not a bad aunt for doing this. I always get my special kids special treats... but never over $5 each. this year they all got a beanie baby, stickers and a bigger candy bag than i give to trick or treaters. They get something like this for valentines and easter too... these kids dont expect anything i dont think... i only do it for holidays. Of course, if the parents didnt want me to i wouldnt. Oh and i am throwing them all a pizza party before they go trick or treating.

  • My family always did special treat bags and stuff but not really what I would consider gifts.
  • I thought I always got little gifts on Halloween just because it is my most favorite Holiday.....but I don't think it should be expected.  And you know what?....I think all the excessive presents at Christmas are getting to be out of control!
  • I have never heard of that before!  Granted I don't have little kids in the family to spoil yet.  I could see extra candy, and even stickers seems okay, maybe a halloween t-shirt or socks, but that's about it.  I would be a little annoyed if I were you too!
  • not a bad aunt lol... i just dont find it necessary :)

  • My parents and one set of Grandparents always get us a little something for holidays (Halloween, Valentines Day, Easter).  It's always just little stuff though.  Although my Grandma did like to buy us stuffed animals all the time for Valentines and Easter.
  • I don't get it either.  I bake halloween shaped cookies and that is about the extent of that.  My grandma used to always give out treat bags, but I don't think that's necessary because kids get so much candy from trick or treating.
  • I agree. It has gotten out of hand!
