Preemies

Best carrier/wrap for a preemie?

Did any of you use a carrier or wrap when you brought your preemie home from the hospital? We still have couple of months before Cora is ready to come home but I'd like to add things to our registry if possible. What works best for tiny babies?

Also a quick intro: Cora was born at 27 weeks on March 2 probably due to an incompetent cervix. She currently weight 3 lbs, 5 oz. She just got promoted to the Level 2 nursery for feeder-grower time! We are very thankful that so far her NICU stay has been a fairly easy one.

  • Jack really liked the moby when he was little. Sometimes If I was home alone I would strip him to his diaper, take off my shirt and pop him in the moby. It was like kangaroo care but I could do the dishes at the same time. He loved it.

  • I haven't brought Teagen home yet but she really likes her hug me rolli, it goes in her carseat but they ended up putting it in her isolette and open crib and she snuggles right up to it.

  • I have a Mai Tai style carrier that i bought on Etsy that Avery LOVES. She was born at 27w 4d but didn't come home until her due date, we started using the carrier about a month ago or so.

  • DD loves her Sleepy Wrap (like a Moby). We have been using it since we brought her home.

Us too!!  We spent hours doing kangaroo care, and this was one of the many (many many many) reasons we loved the moby.

DS was born at 27w3d, 2lbs 5 oz, came home at 36 weeks just over 6 lbs.  Congrats and hope your stay is uneventful!

All of this. I also like that a Moby style wrap allowed for my DH to wear the baby without needing to readjust straps. DD spent her first 4 months or so in a wrap pretty much full time.

  • We used the Moby immediately when DD came home at 37 wks 3 days weighing 4 lbs 3 oz. We used it every day, multiple times, for hours on end. It was like kangaroo care, but I could do stuff around the house :) We loved wrapping so much that we've moved on to a woven (see siggy) and I still wear DD! :)

  • Thanks ladies! It sounds like I need to invest in a Moby.

One more question: how hot are you when you wear your Moby? I live in Texas and we are heading into the 100+ degree days so the idea of wrapping that much fabric around me is daunting :)

I'm in Houston. It's not ideal for summers here since it is cotton, it's very hot! A woven could be a better choice, but they are pricey and you would want to love wrapping before you buy one.
