Confession

Reading the "what's for dinner" posts make me feel like crap.

I suck at cooking. You ladies rock.

 That's all.

  • That's why I stopped reading them.
  • I only read them on weeks where I know I am going to have time to meal plan and grocery shop.  It is usually crock pot central or something simple here.  I just don't have time.

Totally! I am actually making the Garlic Lime marinated dinner ( I will use chicken in place of the pork) tomorrow night with the cilantro lime rice... I could eat a plain lime and a handful of cilantro and call it a night!

  • yeah ditto I am horrible at meal planning and cooking which is why we have random things for dinner. Tonight was rushed but it was refried beans on a whole wheat tortilla, leftover asparagus, and an orange.  Please post your tips for organized meal planning Stick out tongue

This. And anything I make is either crockpot or in the microwave. I have no energy when I get home to make anything fancy.

  • Confession: I budget, plan, and shop. DH cooks the meals, 99.5% of the time. Wink

    Yes

Let me know how it turns out. You know, for some reason, I never would've thought to sub the pork chops out for chicken breast. See, you don't give yourself enough credit! Smile

Nice! Wish this was the case at our house!  DH can't cook.

Ditto, Agathi.  DH can't cook worth a hooey.  He has made inedible manwich, pasta that was so overdone it disintegrated on the fork, and hamburgers that could be used for hockey pucks.  No lie.

  • Meal planning is one of the (few) areas of my life I feel halfway organized about, but it's taken a lot of practice. :) We have about 15 staple recipes that we use regularly, then try some new ones every week. With working part time, I like to minimize my grocery runs. And I used to waste a lot of food and money when I went to the store without a plan. And I'm also lucky that mike can cook just as well as me, so we split the cooking 50-50.

  • The only reason we meal plan is to save week day trips to Kroger.  I love only going once a week, plus it takes away the stress of trying to decide what to make for dinner each night. We love trying new things, but we also have quite a few staples that we will make when we are too lazy to find new recipes or get creative.

  • If I don't have a plan, we end up eating out. We don't always follow the plan though but it is nice to have one.
  • I'm trying to get into planning more so I can bust out of the stress of routine meals, extra trips to the store, eating out, and relying on quickie processed meals instead.

oh, don't do that!  I like reading them.  I am not the best meal planner, and definitely not the best cook, but it does give me some great ideas to start from.

    Well played, KB. Yes

  • Oh gosh Kristen, that isn't what I meant at all. I love getting ideas. I just feel like such a slacker when my meals are usually so boring and ya'll have these fancy dinners. Keep doing them and I will keep reading them!!
