Yoga exclusively?

My main form of exercise is following along with prenatal yoga videos in my apartment. It is so relaxing, and get my body moving just enough to make me feel so much better the next day (as opposed to when I forget or run out of time in a day to do my exercise).

The question for you ladies is this: Do you think it is okay to be only exercising yoga-style? Or do I need more variety? I know walking is the preferred method of exercise, but in my part of town, I just don't feel comfortable doing that.

Re: Yoga exclusively?

  • I go to a prenatal yoga class once a week.  I don't feel that it is enough for me -- I need to do strength training and cardio to get my heart rate up more often.  M W F, I do 30 mins of cardio (eliptical and stairmaster -- running hurts my joints) and 30 minutes of weight lifting followed by stretching.  I also walk my dog like a mile a day.  I think if you did yoga at least 3 days a week you would be fine, plus walking.

  • When I was pregnant I did yoga and the elliptical machine. I also would lift little hand weights.
