Re: Friday Check-In

I guess I unofficially took the Friday Check-in over after the mass exodus of people away from the IN board, but since i will be starting back to work next week I won't reliably be able to post it on Friday mornings (though I definitely will be sticking around when i have time to Bump in the evenings). I really hate that the participation on this board has dropped off so much and would hate for the check-in to fall by the wayside too. Is there anyone else who would be willing to take it over?

  • i'm a little nervous about coming up with great questions each week, but i'm willing to give it a try!!!!!

  • Loading the player...
  • Sweet, thanks!  And, as you'll notice, my questions are less than amazing; clearly April Fools Day is not as cool as I thought it was (I believe the word "lame"  was used!) Smile  I usually just do where/how, maybe a highlight/lowlight question, weekend plans, and something random. You'll do great!

LOL, that was me!  It's JMO.  I also can't stand hidden camera/prank shows on TV, and I absolutely hated Borat.  So, take my April Fool's Day comment with a grain of salt.  Stick out tongue

  • The board is not the same anymore and it totally stinks because I appreciated the veteran mommy advice. Thanks for taking the lead and keeping us going while we are in this "rebuilding" stage.

  • GL going back to work, Whitney! Do you have two years left after finishing this one?
  • Thanks, Kristen. I've received a lot of great advice on here over the past few years, and I hope that sometimes I pay that back! I agree that it sucks to lose so many of the veteran moms - I've found myself venturing to other boards to ask questions I used to be able to bounce off people here. But, I hope that new folks will start to join in and post more often if they feel comfortable. I'm glad you and others have stuck around even when it's gotten slow. I think it will just take some time to get "busy" again, but I'm not planning to stop posting anytime soon :)

Tricia - Thanks - I'll need all the luck I can get this week! Luckily my schedule won't be too rigorous this first month athough my first overnight call is on Friday Sad Yep, I have two years of training left after this one. Next year I'll finally start to think about jobs (!). OMG, I can't WAIT to be done with residency!

  • Good luck with overnight call - hopefully you'll get a few hours of consecutive sleep somewhere in there. ;)

The patience required to become a physician must be monumental. Undergrad, then med school, then residency (especially if a transitional year is required!), then maybe fellowship, then freaking finally you get a "real" job and a real paycheck. Lol.

Ditto this.  I'm neither a mom nor TTC, but I've been around since the Knot wedding-planning days, so it was fun to stay semi-connected to people on this board.

From what I gather, they all decided to move to a password-protected board after that day when a few random posts (all over the Nest/Bump) showed like 3,000+ views... which the Gods later said was a website glitch of some sort.  But that scared everyone here into oblivion.  Sucks.  (I mean, this is PUBLIC internet after all, so all posts are publicly viewable... shouldn't have been news to anyone.)

  • I miss the way the board used to be, too.  Sure, I could join the private board, but it makes me kinda sad to see the IN board become so desolate.  I've learned a ton from lurking on this board and somewhat participating, and I'd like others to have that same opportunity.  I'm not worried about my privacy here - I just don't say anything that I wouldn't want plastered all over the internet.

I like when the old Bumpies come back to give recommendations, etc....we just don't give them much to comment on because there aren't enough of us here to get the conversation going.  And I'm fairly certain you don't want 10 posts from SweetTea every day like the big PW I could probably let myself become!  I'm still hopeful that more will trickle in and we'll eventually have another good, active group like the wonderful ladies who've moved on.

Thanks for sticking around to keep the board going, Whitney!  I will really miss you when you go back to work!

  • I usually stop by daily to see if anyone has posted. I don't mind giving advice or sharing my experiences, but can't really do that if people aren't asking questions!
