comfort nursing and overeating

DS has a major spit up problem and always has. He also insists on comfort nursing a lot. I don't mind except that I worry he'll over eat and then spit up even more.

Should I just cut him off, or risk the extra spit up??

Re: comfort nursing and overeating

  • Whenever DD comfort suckles, she doesn't hardly intake any extra milk at all.  I don't think I'd worry about overeating from comfort suckling.

  • When my baby comfort nurses she does take in more and then does what we call exorcism puking. It's a lot, it's forceful, and looks painful! We started her on a pacifier for this reason because I know that's considered a "laundry issue" but it just looked painful. Luckily she has done will switching between breast, bottle, and pacifier. It might be worth trying if it looks like your little one is uncomfortable. If your baby seems happy then just try to have extra towels and bibs around. Good luck!
