Keesler moms?

Hey, I'm married to a Marine stationed at Keesler, and I'm wondering if anyone's given birth on base yet. I've heard some stuff about them, and I'm really hoping SOMEONE can put my mind at ease. If not, I'm switching my insurance so I can go off base and have the kind of pregnancy and birth experiences I want, even though it does mean I have to pay.

Re: Keesler moms?

  • A close friend of mine had her baby at Keesler and she was pleased. The baby did have some complications and was transfered to Memorial in Gulfport because Keesler didn't have everything necessary.

  • My friend is a labor and delivery nurse there.  She is a wonderful person!  I work right by Keesler also.  I delivered both of my babies at Wesley in Hattiesburg and had a fantastic experience both times.  We live in Wiggins so it's the same distance to Memorial or Wesley
  • Hi! I'm a Navy wife & we're at CBC Gulfport, so I'm 'stuck' with Kessler, too. I've heard my fair share of horror stories, but I've also heard some decent ones. I'm going to wait until i've had an appointment or two to decide if I want to switch standad or not & go to a civillian doctor. Did you switch, or are you staying with Kessler? What influenced you either way? Was there as specific OB you saw that you would reccomend? :) thanks!

I'll be delivering at Wesley in 6 weeks. Glad to hear some positive feedback on them!

I'm going to the Women's Clinic for the first time on the 19th. I decided to stay because of the great stories I've been hearing since asking. Basically, they're a typical hospital, instead of a typical military hospital. I asked this over in the military board, too, and there was one answer from a very happy mom who actually MISSES Keesler.

I'm TTC right now, so who knows when I'll actually meet an OB there, but most of the doctors I've dealt with have been really nice. The ER doctor I had to see, the two nurses there, even my normal PCM isn't bad. They've all been nice, except this female doctor at the family clinic: she's kind of a ***.

    Are you TTC or PG?

  • Haven't had the best experience with Keesler in the past and theres one nurse will terrible "bedside" manner. When you call the number they tell you to call whenever you have concerns, they have the rudest nurse call you back and thats even if they call you back. She definitely made me not want to call ever again. Your better off going to an ER to get better assistance.

  • I am currently 14 weeks along and I am planning on staying with Keesler. My husband is in the Coast Guard in Pascagoula so Keesler is our assigned medical facility. I have heard good stories and I have had a pleasant experience so far with the women's clinic. I had a MC back in Oct 2013 and they treated me very well at Keesler and were extra supportive this time around. I have met a few of the doctors, but my favorite is Dr. Henderson, so if you are nervous about staying there I definitely recommend her. She has kids of her own and even delivered one at Keesler. I hope this helps! Good Luck!
  •  Dr. Henderson is great and Labor & Delivery nurses are waaaaay better.

  • I'm going to Gulfport but my friend delivered at keesler a little over a year ago and LOVED her experience.
