If you had to take this test, and your doctor put you on a special diet for it, could you share the foods you had to eat?
I failed the 1 hour test last week with a 156, but I have to wait for them to snail mail me the diet and do that for 4 days before I can go back for the 3 hour. I'm anxious about it and part of the anxiety comes from being on a strict grocery budget until I get paid from my new job and not knowing what I need to buy for next week.
Also...is a score of 156 for the first test high? If I have GD does that mean I'll have to inject insulin?
Re: question about diet for 3 hr glucose test
FWIW, my 1 hour number was 160 and I passed the 3 hour with flying colors. GL to you!

I took the 3hr test Thursday, my doctor never mentioned any special diet. I just had to fast from 12am to take the test at 8:30am. It did turn out that I pretty much fasted from 8:30 just cause that was the last time I drank anything. I did past it this time.
As for injections I think they try diet first, but maybe different depending on the numbers or doctors. Good luck on your test.
I'm also supposed to fast for 12 hours before, but there is definitely a diet to follow for 3 or 4 days prior to the test. Ugh...I'm annoyed at my doctors office for so many things right now..including putting me on this diet that apparently no one else does and also for not being able to email me a copy of it.
I'm doing the 3 hour on Friday. I was told to not eat super sugary things for 3 days prior. This included large quantities of fruit (ie smoothies), ice cream, desserts in general, etc. I was not given super strict information. I did not take the 1-hour due to prior predisposition to diabetes and GD.
FWIW: When I did the 3 hour a year ago (pre-preg), I was not told to follow any special diet in the days prior. I think it's a doctor specific request. IMO, by following the diet they give, it shows whether or not the GD can be controlled with diet alone or if meds might be needed.
My doc told me that their cutoff was 140 and I scored a 141. She also told me that most people who fail the three hour are incredibly high on their one hour. Every place may be different though.
3 hour test here I come. Hopefully we both pass.
Anyway, I was given an instruction sheet by the lab and it said I would have to fast the night before and three days prior to the test I would have to ensure my diet included at least 150 carbs per day. They included a cheat sheet sort of list with items that contain about 15 grams of carbs each so it is a little easier to make sure you are getting those carbs. I can give you the list if you want.
Hope this helps ease your anxiety
I had GD with my DS and for both him and this DC I had to "carb load" three days prior to my test - I had to make sure I was eating at least a 150 grams of carbs per day and all my snacks had to be carb loaded so they sent me a sheet telling me what I should eat - breads and starches were included in that....
FWIW I had GD with my DS and I failed the one hour with this one but passed the three hour! Good luck~!
I failed the 1-hour but passed the 3-hour. The diet I followed was not complicated (though it did seem like a lot of food!) and can be found at https://www.whcillinois.com/glucodediet.pdf.
Good luck!

My doctor told me just to eat a normal balanced diet before the test. I've seen on here some people recommend at least 150 carbs a day, but that is less than most people eat in a day (IMO).
I got a 170 on the first test and was "borderline" on the 3 hour (pass 2 numbers, my other 2 numbers were equal to the cut off) so my doc is putting me on the diet and I will be checking my sugars with a meter 4x a day. If you can control your numbers with diet you won't have to take insulin and there is very little risk for you and baby.
Good luck, I was freaked too.
Is your diet to control how much sugar you take in or to take a reduced sugar diet?
My three day diet was to make sure they knew how much sugar I had. It was a pretty regular diet but I had to have a tablespoon of honey somewhere in my breakfast and I had to have a pie or some kind of dessert at lunch and dinner.
Breakfast was usually either 1cup cereal with honey and 1 cup milk with a glass of juice or I'd have a slice of toast with jam a glass of milk and a bran muffin
At both lunch and supper I had to have 1 can of V8 juice, a portion of meat, a portion of veg, a starch and dessert.
I passed the second test...good luck!
