New here- put me in the unexplained secondary IF column.

Hi all, I'm new here.  I did an intro on the TTTC board a few weeks ago and they pointed me in this direction.  I'm so glad to have found this board.  I wasn't sure where exactly I fit in, but it seems like this is a great board.

I had my DD in May of '09 after 2 miscarriages and a complicated pregnancy (I had placenta previa and was on bedrest for 4 months.)  Getting pregnant those 3 times was the easy part, it was just keeping the baby that was hard.

I started trying early this time just in case we had problems, but the truth was, I was feeling confident in my fertility again.  I didn't think we would have problems.

Fast forward 13 cycles, and here we are.  I had an HSG, BW, and an ultrasound and everything looks great.  My H had a SA and things also look great.  However, now that we are past the 12 month mark, my RE gives us a 2% chance each month.  She said we would have a 3% chance with Femara and TI, and a 15% chance with Femara and IUI.  We aren't quite ready for that yet.  I'm hoping we will have some luck after the HSG as I understand it can sometimes clear up some small blockages, but after hearing that 2% number I'm not very hopeful.

Sorry so long, but here I am.  I'm excited to get to know everyone.

  • Welcome to the 2IF team!  It's good to see another face from Atlanta, although I'm sorry you are going through this.  Good vibes coming your way!

  • Welcome, sort of. I hate to have to welcome anyone here but everyone is really nice and supportive. No snarkiness. Which I love. I have a similar story. I had my last ds in 6/2009. I had no idea that almost 2 years later I would still be trying. Anyway hopefully your stay will be short. Welcome.

    Your DD is so cute!

I'm a little confused for you (or maybe worried for myself!) If everything looks good, why is your RE giving you such a low chance at success with Femara?  I thought the average success rate was more like 10-25%, dependng upon existing issues?

I'm sorry you've had to come down this road, but this is a great place to be - a very supportive group.  Welcome to the board!!!

  • She said since it has been more than 12 months TTC, our odds are automatically at the bottom of the barrel.  Since they don't have a problem they can fix, we get the worst odds.

My H doesn't buy these odds for a second, though.  If a normal couple has a 20% shot each cycle, and we got pregnant on the first or second time 3 times in a row, clearly our odds were better than the statistical average then.  That is what is making us wait a few more cycles for IUI.  Unexplained fertility just stinks, no way around it.  I wish we knew what was wrong.

  • Welcome!

I'm so sorry that this is where you have found yourself, but this is a great group of supportive ladies to surround yourself with during your hopefully short stay.

My RE (bc of my age, 41), gave us a 7% shot with Femara and IUI, vs 1.5% with TI, so I feel your pain.  My DS was born 12/2008 and here we sit.

The joy of his first LC cupcake!
