Crafty Ladies - t-shirt quilts

Since my sister is having a boy I won't be passing on most of the girls' clothes. I'm going to try to consign some of the nicer things, but the onesies are in pretty sorry condition (read: poop stains on the back). Anyway, I was thinking of cutting them up and making a t-shirt quilt. Has anyone ever made one? How hard is it? I've never sewn with t-shirt material before, is it difficult to work with? Any good tutorials out there? I'm getting Google overload with lots of pay sites.

  • This sounds like a question for pinktulips!  I have no idea other than it might be helpful to serge the edges of the shirt squares together instead of sewing a straight stitch, but of course that requires a serger. :p  What a super cute idea for things you can't pass on/save/donate!  You'll have to PIP it when it's done. :)

  • Hahahaha!

Oh, wait, I do have an answer. :)

I haven't made one, but I have been hoarding Luke's shirts through the years to make him one when he goes away to college.

The little I do know is that you use interfacing to give the knit some stability so it doesn't stretch all over the place.

I am planning on making Luke's more of a crazy quilt style and include various award ribbons, etc.

On the crafts board (the nest) there are quite a few gals who have made them, so I would post this over there. :)
