Preemies

Daycare

When did your preemie start daycare and how did it go? I'm lucky that my supervisor let me play with my leave so that I can be home with ds for almost 5 months full-time and another 1-2  months after that part-time. Still, I'm so nervous about bringing ds to daycare. He had severe IUGR so was born especially small at 3lb 3oz even though he was 34 days 5 weeks gestation. He's never had any major issues other than eating well and reflux. I'm just worried about the illnesses he'll get and how he'll be. He doesn't do well sleeping flat either. I'm just so nervous...he has another 2 months at home.

Re: Daycare

  • I didn't send my DD to daycare until she was 8 months old. I was lucky enough, or maybe not so lucky (depending on how you look at it), that DD stayed home with DH from 3-7 months old. Then for about a month my aunt watched her. I would of loved for her to keep watching DD, but we felt that DD needed the socialization. Our first in-home experience wasn't pleasant, it only lasted a week. Then in August we finally found an in-home provider who worked with us, and DD social anxiety.

I understand how nervous you are. I was very nervous. I was so worried that she was always be sick. Try not to worry about it to much. Enjoy your time home with your little guy.

  • LO started after 1 year because DH wasn't working at all. I was extremely anxious over the whole thing. I will tell you that going to tour and pick out the right daycare helped calm my nerves immediately. She did get a cold while there but she might have picked it up from my nephew - I'm not even sure about that. I was also nervous that she was the only one in the "Wobbler Room" not walking but it actually helped her become more brave and social. All-in-all it was much better than I had thought it'd be.

Good luck - I know its tough!

  • I had to go back to work full time after 8 weeks and DH was already back at work full time.  So unfortunately DD had to go to day care at 8 weeks.  It sucked, but so far so good *knock on wood*.  We tell them what she needs (to sit up after eating, to suction her nose before eating, tummy time prescribed for 4-5 times a day, etc) and they're really good about telling us how she's done.  It's definitely not the idea situation, especially since it was the height of RSV season for us, but I think we have a good provider and she does well.
