We're buying a CAR today!!!

DH and I are buying a car today!!! I haven't owned a car since 2001, and he never has (just got his license 2 months ago), so needless to say, we are VERY excited!!

  • We're looking at Ford, Kia and Honda. Whichever one is the better deal, I suppose. I'm a honda gal, but DH wants a kia, so it'll probably be the ford- haha.

  • Wow, exciting! Did you guys get around just using public transit? Do you know what you're gonna get? We just sold our Nissan Altima yesterday...I was sooo sad to see it go, but we didn't need 3 cars and it was the smart thing to do. I'm still sad :(

    Have fun shopping! :) Congrats!

  • Talk him into the Honda... they're great cars and hold their value more for resale. :)

Have fun, I love test driving vehicles!

  • We live in the city, so we walk everywhere. If we need a car to visit our parents, grocery shop, etc., I'm a Zipcar member. We just figure now with the baby coming, and twice a month doctor appointments coming up in 2 weeks, it would just make sense to buy.

I agree! My family has only ever bought Honda's and they last FOREVER. They are great cars.

  • Hondas will be more pricey, but in the long run, the much better value...not only for resale but mechanically as well. Are you getting a sedan, cross-over, SUV?
  • Most likey a sedan. We're keeping our options open though. I'd love to get a Civic or a Focus.

  • Ditto all the Honda recommendations.  Currently it's the first time in my driving life that I HAVEN'T driven a Honda, and I can't wait to get back in one (hopefully an Odyssey van soon).  They're just great cars and you can sell them on the used car market for a LOT more than a Kia.  Seriously.

  • I work for Nissan (corporate, not a dealership) so I am obviously a fan of Nissans. However, if you are buying "new", I recommend waiting until the end of the month. Fiscal Year ends for the automotive companies were March 31st. The beginning of months are usually weak for incentives. Holiday weekend sales and ends of the month are when you will find the best deal. Good luck! and p.s. Nissans hold their values well and are great vehicles :)

     Happy car shopping!

You know what else is a great car, the Mazda 3. I leased one for 4 years and never had a problem with it. It ran so smooth and there was plenty of room for my DS. Knowing that we would go for number 2 and possibly #3 we decided to finance a Toyota Rav 4 which I love as well. My husband ended up financing another Mazda 3 shortly after. ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM!

Kia wouldn't be a top choice for me. Like I said in a recent post I work for Nissan. But if I didn't and was shopping. I'd go Nissan, Hyundai or Honda, in that order. Hyundai has been very innovative and are growing at a fast rate. They also get great gas mileage!

  • We bought a new Honda Accord a little less than a year ago and LOOOOOVE it! Haven't had a single problem and it will make the PERFECT car for a baby. Huge trunk, big backseat.  We looked into a Civic and it was just a tad too small.  Good luck!
