I found that this board has a lot of questions, and not many answers, so I thought I'd type up my DD's story.
We did a modified version of the 3dpt method. The only party we didn't follow was naps and overnight, we use pullups.
In the week leading up to it, I really played up the potty treats (mini M&Ms), and the big girl underwear, which she got to pick out.
We dedicated the weekend just to potty training. No visitors, trips, cleaning, nothing. One of us was focused on DD entirely, while the other took care of DS and meals. We bought her a couple new games that we all played on the living room floor, and DD sat on a couple of towels. DD ended up just wearing her big girl underwear the entire weekend, not even pants. I found it much easier to catch without pants
We gave her drink after drink after drink. I think I asked her every 5 minutes to take another sip!
The first day we had a little success. In the morning, we had to clean up a lot of pee, and I don't think she made it to the potty at all. But after her nap, I think things started to click. She would still start to pee in her underwear, but when I told her to stop peeing, and ran her to the potty, she was able to stop and finish on the potty.
By the end of the second day, she still wasn't telling us she had to go (that's antoher thing we didn't follow with the 3 day method. We asked her if she needed to go, instead of reminding her to tell us), but she was waiting until we took her before peeing. When she pooped, we made a huge deal and called the gparents each time so she could tell them.
On the third day, I think we had 1 accident, but that was it. She also started telling us that she had to go.
It's been over 2 weeks now, and aside from the first 3 days, she's had 1 accident total. She's even holding it for naps and overnight, but I'm hesitant to stop using her pullups.
For the first 2 weeks, it was a huge novelty. For her to tell me she had to pee 5 times and hour was the norm. She's starting to hold it a little better and pee a lot at once instead of a little at a time. We're still using potty treats and probably will for a couple more weeks at least. All and all, it was a much better experience then I had anticipated, but a LOT of work.
Re: potty training success story!
Thank you for sharing this. I do feel like there aren't enough answers on this board.
So your dd is about 2 and a half?
