We went to a party at like 5 weeks...I just had a designated baby hog so no one else could hold LO. Or he was in his stroller. And I brought hand sanitizer to the party.
For the most part, people were respectful of the fact that he was a NB.
She went to a family birthday party at 6 weeks and her own shower at 7 weeks. Prior to that she had only been on quick trips to Target (for example) in the Moby.
ETA: She was primarily in the Moby at the birthday party but was passed around at the shower.

Depended on how small of shower. Less than 10 people i would wait one week. But I would not let anyone hold them. Mosly family but alot more peopole i would wait till 2 weeks, but still not let anyone hold him. If it was alot of people i did not know i would wait at least a month.
I took DS to my lilttle cousins 5th birthda party at 2 weeks old.
We took DD to a small family event when she was 11 days old; largely against my will. It was a big deal for my husbands side.
But i just kept her hidden in the Moby the entire evening and carried hand sanitizer in my pocket.
Remember, it's you're baby, you know what's best. If you don't want someone touching your LO, say so. Also, if you feel someone is doing something you're not comfortable with, you can always excuse yourself claiming you need to change a diaper or feed.
