1st birthday cake

DS will be 1 in 2 weeks.  We have limited what sugar he has eaten and plan to continue to do so for as long as possible.  (Not anti sugar, just limiting it.)  So, in return I am trying to look for a recipe with no sugar or limited sugar.  Or even better, somewhere that I could buy something like that :o
Any recommendations? Thoughts?

    Google turns up a couple bakeries that have sugar free options. You could also try vegan or gluten free bakeries.

    Most of the ones I have found use splenda or a sugar substitute.  What did you search? 

    Any personal recommendations?

    I'd search "sugar free cake Cincinnati" and "vegan bakery Cincinnati" to see what you come up with.

    Sorry, no personal reco's. I'm a baker, so I like to make the birthday desserts for my children's birthdays. And since it's a special treat, I make them with regular sugar and butter and eggs. :-) I don't think sugar free things taste very good, to be honest. My daughter never tried cake before her first birthday and she hardly ate any as a result.

    Thanks I'll give that a try.  I'm probably going to end up baking it myself as well :(  I tried 2 recipes today, both of which he seemed fine with - I just didn't care for them.  But, obviously that's the problem :)

    I might just go with his own "muffin" and cake for everyone else?!?!

    Maybe google Jessica Seinfeld and see if she has a recipe???

    In comparison to cake, muffins have about the same amount of sugar in them (depending on the recipe).  Most of the problem with cake is the icing, so you might try doing a regular cake and looking for an alternate icing recipe, perhaps a vanilla cream cheese based icing.

    Honestly though, my kids did not eat enough cake on their first birthdays to go through the trouble and risk serving a blah cake (I'm a cake snob).  They tried it but didn't devour the whole thing and most of it was on their face rather than in their mouth.
