  • Its really a personal choice when it comes to Cannon vrs. Nikon... we went with the Cannon t1i... we love it, if we were to do it again, we would get teh Nikon D90... my DH loves photography and we wanted to start off small until he figured out what he wanted to do with it...

If this is just for personal use and not professional, the two models you are looking at would work.

That being said... nikon lenses are cheaper then Cannon... if price matters, go with the nikon.

  • We have the Canon Rebel too, and we LOVE it.  Absolutely zero complaints.  I bought it for my husband for a birthday gift, and all my friends that have DSLRs recommended the Canon.

  • I am a professional photographer. I use nikon. I started out with a d5000 and I absolutely loved it!

You should consider what you're looking to use it for. If you are just going to use the standard lens and shoot family etc. either is a great investment.

Nikon has a universal lens mount for its brand, meaning all nikon/nikkor lenses will fit on all nikon bodies. Not all functions will be able to be used, mainly an issue with pro lenses and entry dslr bodies.

Cannon has an entry level (fx body) mount and a professional (dx body) mount. Not all lenses will fit on all bodies. If you are wanting to use it for more professional photography without investing in another body, nikon may be your best option.

     Hope this helps.

  • We have a Canon and my ILs have a Nikon.  I personally find the Canon easier to use... but it's what I used first.

    FWIW, I love my canon!
