Is this OK for a baby girl? PIP

I received a ton of pink and orange clothes for my LO. So today when I was at the mall, I decided to try to find something a little more neutral. Well, at Old Navy, in the boy's section, I found this set of bodysuits. They're gray and green, no blue at all. I think they look unisex, but when I was checking out, the cashier said "So, I guess you're having a boy?" Ugh!

Can you ladies tell me, do you think these bodysuits are unisex or boy-only? Is the cut of the bodysuits different for girls & boys?

  • Those are WAY cute. I would totally dress my daughter in those.

In fact I bought a white and grey outfit that had circles on it and a bird just the other day for my little girl.

  • I bought these exact same ones for my boy! But they're pretty gender neutral.

P.S. Did you happen to see the Koala shoes?

  • i think they are pretty neutral, Green is a great neutral color, its all in how you dress it up. Say like jeans and pink jacket or something?

    hope that helps :)

ETA: the cashier probably said that because they work there and know that the were in the boys section. :) dont stress too much.

  • Absolutely OK. Green is gender neutral and there is nothing in the pattern that screams boy, actually the one on the left looks like a floralish pattern. I had two boys so if this 3rd ends up being a girl I will most definitely be dressing her in blue. I just wouldn't put a boy in pink.

No, I didn't see the Koala shoes, but I'll probably be back at the mall next week. I'll be on the lookout for them! Thanks for the heads-up.

I'm madly in love with them. My DH is Australian, so I went out of my way to get the baby koala stuff

  • I agree. They are gender neutral. As long as you put her in some cute pants and... God forbid... a headband or bow or a cute girly hat, I think she'll look really cute!

  • Those are super cute!  I have a bunch of clothes in greens, yellows, grays and browns for our little girl.  I don't like pink that much!

  • I definitely would have put them on DD. I also probably would have had them embroidered with her monogram in pink (on the stripe and green one), but that's me. I monogram whenever I can. Wink

  • I would say they would be considered neutral, but just be prepared.  You can dress her head to toe in pink ribbons and bows with a shirt that says "I've Got Ovaries" and strangers will still call her a boy.  DS was wearing a shirt that said Chick Magnet and got "Oh, she's so pretty" all the time.

  • Unless it has "I'm a boy!" written on it, it's usually ok for a girl..and then, even if it does, it's likely to get covered up by something gross at some point anyway :P

  • They are unisex. I like them a lot.

I think she only said that because most people would buy pink/purple/yellow for a girl and blue/green for boys. Green, yellow, orange, and red and even sometimes blue are pretty unisex if you ask me. I think the only colors that are strictly gender related are pink and purple.

I got some animal print onesies as gifts, but most of her clothes are pink too.

pastel, maybe..but I've seen some boys rock out in royal purple and super dark pink.

I tend to hate it when people go "that color belongs to this gender!". Unless the color itself has a penis or a vagina, I think it's safe for both sides to wear :P

  • These are adorable for either gender!

I have a pink Beatles onesie for my boy, so I say 'anything goes'! lol

I would never get all huffy about it like that, but I personally wouldn't dress my son in pink or purple. I'm pretty sure my husband wouldn't let me if I tried.

  • I think those are super cute! I think girls are a lot easier to put into boy clothes too.

My friend had her DS dressed up in blue trucks, with blue airplane hats, and blue everything, and she would always get "what a pretty girl".

her famous phrase was "how much f*cking blue do I have to dress the kid up in so people would know it's a boy.

    so yeah, i'm prepared.

  • A lot of the clothes I've gotten are green since we aren't finding out what LO is.  I would dress LO in those outfits no matter what they are.

  • I have a TON of actual boy clothes from my nephew that my baby will be wearing.  Most of the time she will be in the house, and I'll save her cute girly stuff for when she goes out.  She also has a pink tutu and pink converse I can add to any outfit if I feel the need to girl it up!

  • Some people just seem to go with the assumption that if it's not pink, and covered in bows and ruffles and/or things like "Princess" or "Diva," then you MUST be buying for a boy.

I went to buy some diaper covers yesterday and got the best reaction ever: "I can't tell by looking at your color choices if you know what you're having or not." Big Smile I told her that was the idea.Wink

  • It is very neutral. A little too neutral for MY taste, but very cute nonetheless.

And unless you tattoo "I AM A GIRL" or "I AM A BOY" on your child's forehead, you will get strangers mixing them up. I had DD with pink blanket, pink clothing and STILL got "How old is he?" Meh, you learn to ignore it.
